Couple of questions/comments

Question #1
I have seen several posts/replies on this board where people are saying that there aren't any good thief NPCs in the game. I am certainly no expert on AD&D so could someone explain to me what is so bad about Imoen and Yoshima? Yoshima is doing everything I need done (find traps, pick locks). Am I missing something?
Question#2
Who do you use as your main tank? I seem to be an oddball since I think there are too few good fighter NPCs in the game. Mazzy is a weakling (although there is a belt of ogre strength at the adventurers mart) and I don't want korgain because he is evil.
Just questions. Interested in your thoughts.

Jan is cool I think IMDO
Evil party Korgan kick a$$ but he can live in a good party just pick to other NPC's with caution. Keldore with "the big knife" is also a good tank and not to forget Minsc and Boo.

#1: Bad thing is that neither Nalia (too low level in her Thief class) or Imoen (same thing) are very GOOD thieves, and that Yoshimo betrays you halfway through the game. Personally, I always use my second-best character, who is a lvl 6/23 Fighter/Thief, who has all skills at 100+, except for his Set Snares (which I never use anyway).
#2: Minsc, mainly. Actually, he's the only real hard-hitter in my second run-through next to my main (the aforementioned F/T). I never use Korgan (I hate his attitude) or Keldorn (as I have Vic in my party).

I don't want to get burned like that. I think I'll ditch him before I get on that boat.
Now back to the questions

If you like Yoshimo, you should go with him in your party. Don't let a spoiler change your first run-through of the game. It makes for a good story...

Mazzy is great, second only to Korgan as a tank. Strength isn't everything for a fighter - you have to consider the level of weapon specialisation and AC bonus, too. And the base THAC0, of course (if you should compare her to Anomen (strong but no longer advance as a fighter)). Anyway, you'll soon have enough money to buy the girdle of hill giant strength.

I am pretty much done with chapter 3 but still puttering around trying to get more exp and have not killed the red dragon yet (did get that anti dragon gear though

If you ask me; that was the biggest spoil anyone could ever have told you.
Its a big pity,i actually felt quite emotional at that point of the game.
However i strongly advise that you do keep Yoshimo as it is one of the things you will remember most about the game.
Shame on you Garcia!

Well, I am trying to look on the bright side.
I would rather not have known but I have been gaming long enough to know that reading public message boards put you at risk for spoilers.
Not Garcia's fault at all. My fault.

@Kane- Lay off Garcia! He labeled his post as a spoiler...Saumerez should not have read it!

I definitely recommend you to go for Firkraag already in chapter 2 or 3. I've taken him out at least seven times at that level. For stategies, Gamebanshee has posted loads of tips. The red dragon scale is, if not the best, certainly one of the best armours in the game. Therefor very nice to have with you on long journeys. Also, you get 65 000 XP.

I felt that it's worth to point out that Mazzy got gets two strength spells per day as one of her special powers. Getting the girdle of ogre strength seems a bit wasted on someone that can so easily increase her strength when needed.
