Orcish better than Dwarven?!

Just got my first Dwarven Boots ... My char. has Heavy armor skill 71 - 9 more than Medium. Nonetheless Orcish Boots for him have armor rating 62 against Dwarven 47 ... Maybe it's worth to consider Medium Armor after all.
There's always a question where to obtain Orcish pieces - so far i've found only cuirass and boots. Has anybody seen another parts in some shop?
TIA,
L.

Go kill that big, green Umbra guy and you get a full set of Orcish armor and a bonus prize :) . I'm wearing Orcish now simply because I got sick of Glass. I know you can buy a set from a merchant and even find some, but I can't remember where...sorry.

You probably don't want to. He has 100 in both strength and agility, 80 in willpower, and 400 HPs. His sword can do up to 50 points per whack of damage, and--get this--it ignores any weapon resistances. It also has a powerful enchantment for extra damage. About the only way to take the guy out in battle honestly is to levitate and shoot him full of arrows. Magic won't work.

While I fully endorse levitating to take him out -- it was my idea in the other thread, after all -- there are other ways. A short blade weapon with paralyze or calm humanoid on it (short blade so you'll make very quick attacks; sooner or later you'll get through his magic resistance) is one. The black hands dagger will also work (done that one myself), again taking a couple of tries to get through his magic resistance. Attack, levitate, invisible, critical hit, levitate, invisible, critical hit, repeat as neccessary will also do it. Finally, summoning something like a golden saint to tank him will work if you keep a 'heal other' spell readied and keep healing your summon.

Well, I played a bard to 32nd level and a now a custom fighter to 25th.

The bard took him out manno a manno at 25ish level, had to drink about 2-3 heath and 2-3 fatigue potions but I got the job done. I only reloaded twice. The first time he kicked my ass all over the place. The second time was real close. Finally killed him but I did boost up with amulet of mighty blows as well as fire and lightning shield potions...........so in a way I did kinda cheese it up. But between levels 12-25 I found no opponents that I needed to reload my fights with. I am in no way decked out, so I had the sword of white woe and the ebony cuirass from a smuggler. Trying to play realistic, cuz Lets face it the AI is stupid versus any type of ranged attacking.

Be not overconcerned about "firsts." ;) I tried it before this thread appeared, and I'm sure others did, too. Though you were absolutely correct to point the solution out. :)

Did you find this worked? That 80 willpower of his makes his resistance to magic very powerful, indeed. While its true that you can use a short blade much more in a short space of time, maximizing the chance of working that ol' voodoo, this seems more like a strategy built for plenty of reloads. In the absence of an effective bow skill, of course, there aren't many other options, so you're perfectly correct.

As an afterthought, just consider how difficult he'd be if was also a dedicated marksman. ;)

I think the 'Calm Humanoid' effect may be bugged, because even a low-level effect seems to almost ALWAYS work...especially on a 'cast when strikes' weapon. I actually killed Umbra with a bound dagger and a good sneak skill (I was 15-20th level at the time and it took a while).

I used the following method to take him out:

1) SNEAK up and Critical Strike his depressed, lonely back(side).
2) Run away, screaming like a little girl (crying for mommy is optional).
3) Jump over an obstacle, a big rock will do, and cravenly hide behind it so he un-aggros when I sneak again (A good reason to wear glass greaves...people tend to notice the rust stains on the front of the metal pants).
4) GOTO #1

I actually never even got hit by the guy. Of course, I cheated and used the terrain to my advantage...something that never happens in battle. If I do it again, I might get banned from Real Life (tm) ;)

EDIT: Hehe...sorry, Fable...couldn't resist :)

Actually, Fable, yeah, I've done it myself. About one hit in three with a magical weapon seems to affect him. I don't know if that implies that magical weapons and magic resistance work differently then magic resistance and spells, but it definitely works.

I wonder if Morrowind does a comparison anywhere between the respective willpower stats of the caster and subject of the spell; or the spell skill and subject? I've been using a relatively young bruiser on the big lug, and *no* magical effect seems to work. Now, my bruiser has pretty low willpower and spell schools all in the 20s.
