Out of int and wis which is most important for a fighter?, Wisdom increases magic def and somehow affects the initiative round, but intellegence decreases Mazing times. Are there any other affects?

I would get them both, from a rollplaying point of vieuw
I try never to have stat's under 9,

But wisdom is a important when fighting against mindflayers

Just think of what kind of fighter you have in mind and chose the stats this way.
(For instance his study background)

But the best choice for a stronger fighter depends on who he will be fighting.
Wisdom has better saving throws against magic IIRC. I hated it when my fighter couldn't fight because he was put out of action by a wizard.

In most situations, I think WIS is more important for a Fighter. But Mind Flayers can temporarily drain 5 INT points when they hit you. If your INT goes below 0, you're dead. So I would give a Fighter at least a 6 for INT if you ever intend for him to fight a Mind Flayer.

I also agree with Stilgar. It's just a matter of pride not to let any of my character's stats be less than 9. I don't want a stupid Fighter, even if I could get away with it in the game to increase her other stat points.

Actually, Wisdom will be less helpful when you fight the Flayers - they drain Intelligence. Nevertheless, Wisdom improves saves vs. mental spells, which, AFAIK, includes psionics.

About the mindflayers, Sorry, I must have mixed intelligence and wisdom up.

Keep in mind that a stong character isn't automaticly more fun to play.
The harder the challenge, the better you feel after you did it. (for me at least)

I, for one, agree with you, but if you're trying to convince some of the other people here, you're fighting a losing battle. :)

Totally agree with you there and anyway what's wrong with big dumb fighters? Finding ways round low(ish) stats is great fun and very rewarding (like Vic's low strength).

BTW, I'm not sure if the wisdom bonus for spell saving throws was implemented in BG2...but I might be wrong.

The Wisdom save modifiers were not implemented... Wisdom is pretty damn useless. It is only used for...
  • Bonus priest spells.
  • Arcane scroll use (you need at least 12, I believe).
  • Wish and Limited Wish options.
  • Dialogue options (only a few in the original game, many more if you install Ascension or the upcoming Return to Windspear).
All in all, not too much in there for warriors.

Xyx, are you saying the manual is wrong (or the game is flawed, depending on how you look at it)? After all this time... What a bummer.

Which is more important? Does your fighter have more booklearning and/or skill with social interactions, or is he the kind who meditates privately, and knows simple but profound truths?

Just throwing in a roleplaying perspective. Carry on. ;)

I'm only passing on what I read, but according to Kevin Dorner, BioWare has admitted that the Wisdom save modifiers were never implemented.
