The *search* option - A friend for all

Perhaps my day's as a newbie taught me something, perhaps they were worth something, nothing says newbie more than asking the same question over and over again, so the many sensible webmasters invented a very helpful device known as the search option.

It may come as a shock to some people, but it is easy and conveinient and also means one doesn't have to ask that newbie question about Kangaxx, lets put it this way, i joined GB over a year and a half ago and asked the occasional newb question when the board didn't have the topics covered, yet what do i see when i lurk in the BG2 forums...questions about Kangaxx, is it that hard to find, is it our fault for not making it more obvious, i ask you this question, when you have a question about performance issues on the latest game from Bethesda for instance, what do you do, do you:

a) Go to the site email the producers/makers and ask them
b) Go to the site browse for a short while and decide you can sort it yourself
c) Go to the site start harping on about how bad the game is and how it is everyone elses fault
d) Go to the site, use the search button, find a relevant thread and read it
e) Decide you don't have a life and go get drunk with mates instead
f) Go play a game that works instead
g) Twiddle thumbs
h) ask the same question that has been asked a thousand time before

If you chose a, b or d you get a :)

If you chose c or h you get a stern  from me!

If you chose e, f or g you get a  instead ;)

I come around your house, look at you exceptionally sternly then make off with all the booze in your house, leaving a quick thankyou note on the way out :D

@Ode, i knew i could rely on you  ;)

You are gonna leave empty handed! :D

Usually it is a newbie question asked a million times before, as I am not one to do a search.

Oh well i guess it's the CD player i default to if no liquor is found :D

At least you don't then resort to c ;)

Anyone who tries to steal Fas's booze is in for an unproductive break-in, although on the plus side they will have a light load on their way out.

@Sleep have you done the Monopoly board pub-crawl yet? I'd hate to disappoint my loyal fans... ;)

Don't have that either. Why do you think i want Ode and Kayless's stereo systems? :D

Actually I had never heard of the search thing until i came here. So now i use, it if i have a question, but sometimes really lazy or want a quick answer. Newbie question for sure.

Yeah, but that would mean i will have to have away with something else, probably random then if there is no CD player :D

It is actually the first sign of web literacy, the expert/literate always consults the search option first :)

I think it would crash the search engine :D

I always search first, but that's more because I don't want to look like a stupid newbie :o :D

Not exactly a confluence of ideals ;)

I am afraid to say CM that being annoying seems to be the norm for most people ;)

I'm afraid you'd have to, how could we do the monopoly board crawl otherwise?

Oi!!! :D The advantage of this side of the border is that the pubs are close enough together to pub crawl without a car! :p

BTW @Sleepy, I didn't say the first quote in your last post, you're making me sound schizophrenic, no wonder you think we're crazy... :p :D

@Ode but why would you want to go to London for a pub crawl when there's Wokingham... 16 pubs, I think, all within convenient distance, and also conveniently close to home. :D Actually, thinking about it, maybe you should go to London  :p

I'll do a pub crawl with you and any other GBers who live near Wokingham and feel up for it too. Of course, this is all dependent on my going to the UK in the first place.
If I do you won't be left out, don't worry.

I'll look into some good pubs here in Perth, BTW. When are you travelling down here again?

That'll be Nippy then... :D
Somehow being left out wouldn't worry me... :p
