Big steaming pantload of Jaheira problems.

Ok, for starters I'm currently caught in the Jaheira "did you enjoy that last battle? huh? didja? well?" conversation loop o' death for the third game in a row. Thanks to this forum, which I only recently discovered, I now know that it's because I killed Dermin before reaching the appropriate point in the romance. (Odd that the official website forums for the game contain little to no helpful information. This place has been amazingly helpful, though.) So, I went back to an old save that I made immediately BEFORE my final meeting with Dermin, went off to a nice quiet spot in the woods, and hit pause for a few hours. Got a romance conversation, paused again, lather, rinse, repeat. Eventually she got to the "did you enjoy that last battle?" dialogue. I completed it, hit pause, waited a few hours, unpaused, and she repeated it, much to my irritation. Then she did it a third time a few hours later. So I thought to myself "Hell, maybe meeting Dermin AT ALL causes the loop o' death." So I went back to a MUCH earlier save that I had made immediately before my FIRST meeting with Dermin, went off to the woods, started the mind-numbing pause game, and lo and behold now she's repeating the "I feel like someone is marching over my grave." conversation. So, now I have a few questions.
#1: Most importantly, how the hell do I fix this? (I've got the patch installed, if that's relevant.) It seems like Jaheira is determined to repeat herself no matter how far back I go. I want to get the romance back on track, and preferably without mucking around with codes or an editor or a downloadable script. I'm struggling to make it through this game without having debug mode turned on. Do I just go back to an even earlier save? What exactly is causing the problem here? Is it because I'm very CLOSE time-wise to a Dermin meeting at each save? One rest for either save brings him up. If it's not Dermin causing the problem, what is? I've got a lot of saved games here so I can go back to pretty much any point, although I would of course like to stay as close to my current save as possible. If I have to replay the entire game over from Irenicus' first dungeon AGAIN because of this I'm going to snap and go on a spree of some sort. So, for my sake and the sake of the children, tell me there's an easy, non-cheat way to correct this? Do I just have to go much further back?
#2. About the pause thing, what's the best way to go about this? Last night during my pre-final-Dermin-battle-save fiasco I had been sitting in the temple ruins forest, and there had been only about an hour or so of pause time between conversations. So then I left it on pause and went to bed...I woke up expected a new conversation as soon as I unpaused in the morning considering it had been paused for about 6 hours, but I didn't get one. I had to pause and unpause a few times for a few hours before she finally spoke again, and it was just a repeat of the "did you enjoy the last battle" thing. Is there a better or at least more reliable strategy for using the pause thing to get her to talk? Is there a better map to do it on? Druid grove seems to be about the same. Should I walk around between pauses? If I leave the game paused for a very long time will several dialogues happen quickly afterwords or does the timer stop while it's waiting on me to unpause and read just one?
#3. I originally had a third question, but I can't remember it anymore, so I'll just end this post here. I would really appreciate an answer to either of my questions. This is my third time through the game and I've yet to get through Jaheira's thing without hitting a bug in the script triggers. So, thanks in advance.
