When this board ain't enough...

When nobody on this board seems to know the answer to a particular question, where do you turn? The official board certainly hasn't given better results so far. Recently posted on Planetbaldurgate's board but no answer yet. However, when looking at some of the questions and, in particular, the answers given on the other boards, I get the strong impression that the knowledge on this board is far superior. So, any ideas on what to do?
BTW, my question: What are the exact effects of the normal bard song and how does it improves as you level up? I'm looking for the stats.

Either you ask Slyweasel

(might give you an answer that you really didn't expect) or you post the question on this board and then when it starts to drop you "knock" it up on top again by begging even more for help....you need a bit of patience and eventually someone will take the time to answer that question.
I think that whatever question you ask on this board someone will be able to answer it....there are a lot of experts here in different areas.
"Drak" for example knows a lot about AD&D roleplaying, so does Magus....
Weasel knows a lot of stuff in general while "Ubik's" and "Gruntboy's" field of expertise lies elsewhere..

(I think you all know what I mean)

Hoi! I can be helpful. Though I thank you for your acknowledgement of my sexpertise.
As far as I know from the manual, normal Bardsong does not improve with level. However,
Jesters cause confusion (no improvement);
Skalds get great improvements;
Blades get NO improvement.
This last point leads me to beleive that normal bardsong DOES improve.
I think in BG1 bardsong did +1 to hit and +1 to damage. I can't imagine this improving faster than every 4 or 5 levels only to +4 or so at 20th level.
These are the likely effect but I think I will e-mail bioware etc. to find out... now I'm intrigued.

Gruntboy; would be great if you could do that. At least *they* should know, one would hope

.
Karembeu; Of course I should be patient. On the other hand, I don't want people to find me annoying because I come back with the same old question over and over when apparently no one knows the answer. Also, this is the third thread where I post this question.
I'm afraid you can't rely too much on the rulebooks. The implementation is, for different and without doubt good reasons, not always exact if I've understood the matter correctly.

You are certainly not bothering me since I play a Skald and I am generally interested in Bards anyway.
Someone posted in one of the other threads that the standard Bard song increases Luck and Morale. Not terribly helpful but all we've got so far

This board is always enough. This is the outpost. This is were you go when you have nowhere else to go. This is where you seek your wisdom. This is where your prayers get heard. This is were your questions get answered. This is were glory grows. this is were the homeland of the holy men exists. This is were you will have your visions. This is were you can seek your sanctuary. This is the path between good and evil. This is were the funnymen lives. This is were you expand your horizon. This is Gamebanshee forum. So have no fear; help is always near if you are a Banshee musketeer
Some say I am just a little melodramatic....what the hell are they talking about???

Garcia, man, you are a hell of a poet! Still, you should take under concideration what Gruntboy said, it is a real asset to this board (there is not even one game forum that has such intimate and professional - also reliable - information on sex!)
Me? A sexpertise? noooo... not really... well, ok, only on weekends

I know the feeling, Astafas. I've searched high and low for some answers regarding the game, and since I am a "netnerd" I must confess that it was a very troughout search as well.
It turned out in the end that not even the developers managed to answer my questions, having quite simply forgotten the information during the development or not knowing who in the company that should be able to answer it.
Turned out that I got the best answers on this board in the end, even if it was no answer at all (and that says something about some of the answers I got).
As far as I know about YOUR question though is that the bards song adds +1 to hit, +1 to save and +2 to morale for all his allies in field of vision. I have had no proof that this song improves over time whatsoever but will check it out using the shadowkeeper right now. I'll post my findings later.

well I used to post alot on www.bgdungeon.com forums, there are ALOT of posters there, I recently had cross words with some posters and decided to not post for awhile to let things calm down. Just a word of warning though your questions will become off-topic pretty quickly if you let them, there is a large group of spammers.
Overall though it is one of, if not the best forum to ask serious game related questions. I myself do not play bards so I cannot help you unless I go into the bard song spell file.

I have made a little poking around and experimented with various bards at various levels against hostile summoned monsters. I'm sad to report that I could see no effect whatsoever from the bards song. If it's there then it's marginal and invisible (doesn't go into account as a modification of a roll but alters perhaps the roll itself). Skalds do get their bonuses as stated but the "normal" song is unknown to me.
There's a +2 morale bonus though wich seems to increase by +2 for every fifth level the bard gains. The other bonuses (what ever they are) should follow that trend I guess.
Sorry I could not be of more help.

Well, I e-mailed Nathan at Bioware regarding the normal bard song and got theh following answer:
"Hello,
Well I've asked around and no one seems exactly sure how the bard song works since it was hardcoded from BG1. I'm assuming that it's not mentioned in the manual or in the class description when you make a bard? You might try the Interplay message boards to see if anyone has actually figured out the exact numbers."
So, I'll drop that question now. Maybe I'll leave my bard for now and try out a fighter/illussionist instead.

I quote from the Players Handbook (pg.92):
The music, poetry, and stories of the bard can also be inspirational, rallying friends and allies. If the exact nature of an impending threat is known, the bard can heroically inspire his companions (immortalizing them in word and song), granting a +1 bonus to attack rolls, or a +1 bonus to saving throws, or a +2 bonus to morale (particularly useful in large battles) to those involved in melee. The bard must spend at least three full rounds singing or reciting before the battle begins. This affects those within a range of 10 feet per experience level of the bard.
This is 2nd Edition PnP AD&D. I don't know if this is how they have implemented this in the game.

You of all people! I didn't have the impression that you could enjoy talking about something like sex
