Custom npc

I have managed to bribe, cajole, herd, threaten and gennerally shmooze a bunch of people to make a custom npc for bg2 these people, unlike myself know what end of a puter is up and concequently are always on about things like linux and photoshop.....which I always though was somewhere you went to get film developed

Anyway, these cheery folks while being technicaly apt have the imagination of a dead walrus and basicly they want me to do dialogue and such.. which Im quite partial too, since I might get my name on it for not really doing anything.

I have a problem however, I also have the imagination of a dead walrus. I think to myself, here.. Since its going to be people like you *waves hand expansivly to indicate the gamebanshee populace* who will use said npc why dont I ask the people want they want? Now im not sure if this is really a bg2 topic. so if somone wants to kill me and move this to sym or whatever.. fair enough.

So... what do you all want? ... the only guidline is that he or she has to be normal, ie no increased stats or strange abilities and has to be available in byrn law at the lastest, there also has to be a romance option or whats the point?

So spill it... and maybe in a few months when you have all forgoten about bg2 and are happily playing neverwinter nights the npc will come out, no one will download it and boo will cry

Agreed with Arcane. The thieves in BG2 are lacking until you get Imoen back, and she's gone for half the friken' game!

And she needs a Miniature Giant Space Hamster named "Bop" so Boo won't cry as much. ;)

Give her an attitude, too. Not as harsh as Viccie and Jaheira, but somewhere along the lines of good-natured sarcasm. We need another charactor with good humor (unlike the Kelsey flop). (No offense meant to anyone there.)

I got an idea! (And I've been dying for this since, like, FOREVER!) Why not model her after Alora from BG1? SHE was the thief to top even Imoen, and her personality was awesome. Good woman, I'd love to see her created and brought in!

... hmm

female elf or half elf possibly halfling, Swahbuckler, theif or fighter theif?
I would like to model her after alora, i truly would... who is alora anyway? I only played bg1 once and i never met her, I or rather we, but ha! they will never know.. I I I I me me me me me I want this char to original

I see this is moving.. what about stats? Alignment? And heck, a little bit of modificaion cant hurt.

So normally illegal multis for race, like Aerie are allowed, possible innate skills.. but only with a stat punishment

I have to be very carefull about balancing this char.. my friends decided to make this npc as a fair a balanced player, not a 25 dex kensai abomination like a certain aproaching npc WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS and if i get to smarmy and suggest giving her so much as 1 % innate mr without penalising her in some other department.. I will be instantly cast out from my pnp group, forced to endure the shame of seeing my character sheets burned and they will all insist that i made boo cry

my suggestion: please, no more elves. How about the only race that isn't covered by any npcs -- half orcs.

If there's any chance to get a GOOD char I'll try to be helpful...

I think that an evil Half-Orc Fighter/Thief, or Cleric/Thief, will be really cool... I'll be glad to help!

@ Aqua-chan: There allready is a NPC like that (not as harsh as Viconia and Jaheira)......she is called Tashia and shes full with humor. She is a Sorceress and a good aligment character......I think that shes good, both in the romance and as a normal party NPC.

@ gnomethingy: Dont worry......there are enough people who download those selfmade NPC's........About the NPC....wouldnt it be better to have a Thief a bit earlier in the game then in Brynlaw, I mean what is the use then anyway if u get Imoen like 30 min later?? Personally Id say i would like a good "Friend" along for a change. With someone u can talk about a romance and who also can have a romance with a fellow party member. So u will be able to discuss things........just like a real-life friend.

Just giving my thoughts people

Oh, gee, of course not.

In any event, Archer is right, Tashia is quite likely your speed. She tells Jaheira she snores.

I think people just don't appreciate Kelsey enough...
In short -
Kelsey is what you need if you want an NPC - with character, background, and depth...
Sola, Tashia, and mostly Valen, is what you need if you want a Uber Demigod - someone with a magic-immune familiar, uber-weapons, or an 'immune to everything' mist form...

Don't get me wrong, i love these mods, and enjoying them myself... They're really fun, and the Sola mod really improves the game, but it's simple:
If POWER is what you want, get Sola, Tashia, And Valen.
On the other hand, if you're looking mostly for character DEPTH, get Kelsey pronto...

Just my humble opinions, though. Play the game and have fun ;) .

I actually havent tried Kelsey yet......could u tell me who he is (when u DONT romance him).........is he like a friend??

I dont like powergaming........just plain roleplaying, and i want to know how does he react with other party members??
And how with me (Archer, male CG).

Next part will probably be: Minsc Jaheira Viconia Kelsey Imoen/Nalia/Jan

Kelsey's relationship with a non-romantic PC is not extremely long: only four sessions, if I recall correctly, which is not unusual compared to the Bioware NPCs but is also nothing to get excited about. In writing Kelsey, I focused on the romance, and on the interparty banter, which there are more than two dozen sessions of, more than any Bioware NPC.

And in all seriousness, while I do have my gripes with Tashia's character (like the fact that she's rather abusive but tries to cover it up with girlish charm, and yeah, the virtually-unkillable summon), Arian did put a fair amount of work into developing her dialogues, and some people find her quite moving, and get a really big kick out of her random jokes and comments. It's not like taking a zombie around the game with you, that's for sure. So if you have any interest at all, check out the link I posted a few replies up.

@ jcompton - I'm serious. I didn't mean to insult anybody, but I was slightly dissapointed when I tried the Romance with Anomen in my party. After the big hype that people started to give me about how it was so hysterical, I was expecting...more. :) ;) (I don't want to tread into hostile terriories here!)

But the thing is, I dont want a sorcerer. They're too complicated for me to play because...after all...it IS a woman's perogative to change her mind. It's impossible for me to pick a restricted number spells without completely messing it all up.

I'd just like to have ONE single-classed thief with a good attitude, no stabbing you in the back for a plot-line, and NO turnip stories!

Is that so much to ask? :( ;) :p

I agree whole-heartedly that a non-dualed/multi-class thief is needed. Yoshimo is all well and good, but you really get no selection. Although, I'm sure Bioware engineered it that way, for obvious reasons, but still...

I'm a fan of the idea of a female chaotic good (or chaotic neutral even) thief or thief kit. Or possibly another bard that isn't COMPLETELY retarded and only used really for his ability to cast Death (at least in my game, some of you might love him... blah).

The half-orc idea is neat, but there is already a good selection of front-rank bashie-bashies, in my opinion. If you went for a second NPC Mod, then yeah, shoot for the smelly guy.

Anyway, back to the thief, I like the female Swashbuckler idea, but, again in my opinion, I think maybe short swords over longswords. Swinging two longswords around is a little iffy, I think, for a thiefly person. As for thief skills, I'd focus less on the Stealth stuff, as Swashbucklers, as far as I can see, are more flashy and bold than a careful footpadder. Maybe a higher focus on Pickpocket and Detect Illusion. I can envision a scenario with the Swashbuckler striding boldly into a room, pointing at the Invisible mage, and saying "Peek-a-boo, I see you".

For stats, I'd say a high dex, of course, and a high charisma. By high I don't necessarily mean 18's, but maybe 16+. My idea would be as follows:
STR: 14
DEX: 17
CON: 16
INT: 15
WIS: 11
CHA: 16

I think the stats are fair, with nothing too outrageous.

And, heck, for fun, let's even do a colour scheme. Teal and purple, maybe?

Alright, From what I can a theif is not only what ye all want, the game really does need another.
Possibly dual classed, but only a few lvls like anomen.. What I would really like to see, would be a fighter of lvl 4 or so dualed theif, I mean thats my preference, you will still get a good theif just one that can specialize ect... Ive also has an idea for and item, or rather two items.. A cloak, much like one you kill solufein for but not as powerfull, and a bag in which the cloak must be stored outside to prevent it disintigrating

The reason for Brynlaw being an idea for where you get the npc is
a) all my friends are mad rpers and gallantly rush of to get imoen as fast as they can, so they dont see this as being late game

b) You dont get any other npc in brynlaw.. :P

c) Add in a related npc quest, which gives you something to do before you rush off to the assylum

d) This isnt really bryn law though, but this is the real reason... All my frends want to do a stoaway scene on seamons ship, in which the new npc explains herself, what exactly she explains I dont know as yet

Brynnlaw? But I need a Thief in the Guildhall to pick all those locks! Aww, shoot.

Okay, gnomethingie. Just don't make her seem like she's got more blood of a god in her veins than you do. I hate invincable NPCs!

And don't give her a corny name, either. ;)

Hair color? I see a blonde coming our way... Exactly what we need. Another dumb blonde like me.

If there's anyways I can help, gnomethingie, let me know. I'm able and willing to do whatever it is to contribute. (Hope that doesn't sound *too* bad...)

I got fired on Sunday. Wheeee! (Spontaneous, but, oh well...)

Personally I think there should have been a monk NPC in the game which would have really topped it off. Maybe just a traveller that you meet during one of your quests that is adventuring trying to find his inner self. Besides the monk having the option of the fighter stronghold, which IMO doesnt really suit his style there are no other quests or even characters in the game that are monks (that i can remember)

I think that any party can benefit from a spiritual monk granting everyone his wisdom...

A halfling Thief like Alora would be a nice addition to the game. Her lucky rabbit's foot has special powers, you know (it grants her permanent Luck). Or you could have a smooth-talking Fighter/Thief like Coran. Otherwise, I can't think of anything that's missing from the game, besides a pessimistic Enchanter or a schizophrenic Necromancer. :)
