Which male romance option do you personally enjoy?

Just curious. Now that female NPCs actually have a choice when it comes to romance, which guy does it for you?
I won't pass much comment on Anomen here, except to say that he is probably quite misunderstood and given his background it is hardly surprising his character is what it is.
Kelsey, I think, is a lot of fun, he's a real sweetie who expresses concern about how the NPC feels about life...a refreshing change
Solaufein is a bit mysterious, somewhat brooding and philosphical....
*sigh* I am a consumate sucker for the dark, brooding type, so as far as personality goes, masochist that I am....

, Sola is probably closest to my ideal
Incidentally, the purpose of this thread is not to abuse any of the above NPCs, in particular the latter two. I think it is awesome that people have put the time and energy into creating new romance options, and IMO they are all great!

Well, you know me best, DW.

Something about a guy with a messed-up childhood catches my attention.

I'm afraid I'll have to abstain from your poll because I've never played with Solaufein, and I never got very far into the game with Kelsey. It wouldn't be fair for me to vote for Anomen.

The thing is, that's the way my character feels: she'd rather not get romantically involved with some guy in the first place. Not while she has so much business to attend to. Her favorite companion is Imoen, because you can always count on Imoen, and she never gives you any nonsense. "No men" is a safe choice from a gaming perspective, too.
Mind you, I'm not knocking any of the NPCs, especially not the ones in the MODs.
I think that all sorts of questions can be raised about what makes a good romance and how characters should bond and so forth. But I'm afraid that if I commented on it, you might take it as criticism. I'm glad that you two (Dragon Wench and Aqua-Chan) enjoy the bonding process that Anomen, Kelsey, and Solaufein have to offer. It seems to be a process in which the characters open up to each other, expose their respective vulnerabilities, and build trust. It's a good formula, and it even seems to work in real life. But if you don't mind my saying, my character would have to rely more upon pure attraction. (I'm talking about character, comfort, and security as well looks.) It's not easy to create that in an NPC. But that formula seems to work in real life, too.

I actually think that considering what would make a good romance would be a great subject for discussion.

It's just that because I recognise all the work that went into those mods I didn't want to seem offensive.
I agree....IMO the interior of a character tends to define the exterior. As far as I'm concerned, if somebody is lacking within....or simply obnoxious, no amount of superficial "good looks" will compensate. I also believe this to be the case when dealing with people in RL.

Physical appearence doesn't make a man for me (though...I can't say it doesn't help....

) But, in real life, you aren't attracted to others simply because they look good.
On the other hand...!
In RPGs for me, good-looking charactor portraits are VITAL!
Remember Garrick from BG1? I switched his and Kelsey's portraits around when I added him in because Garrick isn't all brawn, but he's not brought out with a flourescent red background, either.
Sola? Yeah, I changed him around a bit, though he didn't stay with my party for too long as it was.
Anomen? Always been satisfied with his portrait.

I played through the romance...I think four times now, and I've gotten quite partial to that specific picture for the guy.
But in RL, I can't afford to be picky.
PS- I think this is gonna be another good discussion thread. Lots of areas to talk about here!

Garrick and Anomen? Each to their own I guess...

You know if you're ever in a really bad hair dressers and they have those ultra cheesy soft focus photos of people displaying hairsyles you'd never want in a million years? Garrick and Anomen spring to mind...
Its a real shame Bioware axed the Haer'Dalis and Valygar romances, female relationships suffer for it IMO. I know its been said before...but Anomen likes you because you remind him of HIS SISTER! His DEAD sister. He'd probably start calling you by his pet name for her after a while and bringing out her favourite outfits (which he would've kept natuarally) for you to wear...
(I do really like the Anomen character though, he has a great deal of depth, interesting sub plot etc. But so does Jan...)
Haven't tried Kelsey yet so I couldn't comment. My vote goes for Sola and his relationship isn't even exclusively for females.

As the late Spike Milligan frequently added at the end of his Goon Show, "It's all in the mind, you know."

Spike milligan eah? You read "Adolt hitler and my part in his downfall" Very funny book but its also a bit sad, I dont think the war did that guys brain much good
back on topic... I like Ln anomen, there something hearty and reassuring about being called comrade.. rings a little "ho landlord, another ten pints for the lads! WaHey!!"
If males npc's that are romancable is yer bag, you had best get on over to the custom npc thread and say so.. or its going to be yet another lady, which ruins me anyways couse I got no decent female portraits to use

Serious call for help please....
I don not have the Sola mod, can you tell me if is worth installing (and play a new game from the beginning just to get the romance?)
I mean... you can't meet him until chapter 6 as far as I know... or does the mod allow to meet him earlier?

1. Haer Dalis'...

Why did they have to axe out HIS romance?! I'd have a hard time losing Valygar, but why take my smug, demonic bard, too?!
2. I know! Me and Georgi were talking about how scary it would be if he was thinking about his dead sister when he's trying to be, and I quote, "loyal in mind, spirit and
especially body". **shudder**
3. Anomen's a great charactor. The peeps at Bioware intentionally made him to be snooty, but that just adds on to the plot of the game even more!
But the best times are when you have both Jan and Anomen in the team. I never take one of these NPCs without the other.

They're like oil and water. Incompatable in every way, but together they make really good Italian dressing.

Yeah, its sad. Given his nature, I'd have said HD was the most natural choice for a female romance. I can't remember exactly where I read that there was a romance, but I do remember reading it somewhere...so much was cut from the game or never went past the idea stage. David Gaider has posted several run throughs of the cut stuff on the Sola mod forums. It makes for some very interesting reading, some of the ideas look great...including a Boo kidnap quest! This was my favourite as there's an indication that maybe there have been several Boos given the short life span of hamsters

Here's an example of one of the evil dialogues ( written by David Gaider and originally posted on the Sola mod forums):
Smoosh would do so, saying "Oh, my mistake...I guess that was another hamster I sold. Ahhh...here is your Boo, sir."
Minsc, of course, would be quite suspicious. "Ehhhh...this is not looking like Boo. Why is his hair so grey? Why does he seek to flee off of Minsc's hand?"
If the PC has a decent intelligence, he can counter Minsc's objections with seemingly reasonable explanations.
PC: "His hair is grey because he's been frightened to be without you, Minsc."
Minsc: "Well, yeeeesssss, but why does he run so?"
PC: "He's still scared. He will calm down eventually."
Minsc: "But he seems so big. Boo was never so big..."
PC: "Smoosh probably feeds him more than you do. Plus he hasn't had the exercise of combat."
Minsc: "(CHARNAME) speaks sense, maybe. I am sorry to be doubting you so, Boo."
Great stuff! Shame it never went past the ideas stage.
