Why aren't I playing NWN?

I'll tell you why. I don't live in the USA. It seems that some people consider me, because of this, to be a lower class of person. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but Neverwinter Nights was designed by a Canadian company, and published (and this really cuts) by a French company. Yet France, Britain and the rest of the world other than good ol' North America have to wait ten days for it to be released.
Now, in their defence, a little bit of jiggerypokery does need to be performed to make the game work on international systems. NTSC/PAL conversion, for example. And translating all the dialogue to the respective languages. However, these are both pretty major tasks, and both would take longer than ten days. International distribution? No more than two days longer than driving trucks around the US.
So... scraping the barrel for Infogrammes's excuses: marketing. USA is a far bigger market than, uh, England. Yeah. Waaay more people buy videogames west of the ocean, man.
Yeah, guys. Not that we want to forget that there are way more people in the USA than in Britain. No no no. And how nice that you're fudging the facts by treating each country seperately. Good one.
I'm open to suggestions why the rest of the world is being screwed over. I am willing to learn. Thing is, I can't think of a single good reason.

You pretty much outlined why we get it first - bigger market, most disoposable income. Capitalism won after all
Fo all the crap we Yanks take there are still some big advantages to living here - like.....well.....I guess getting NWN qualifies - although I can't think of anything else

Yes, but there's the rub, see. The market is only smaller because the population is smaller. Proportionally, the games-playing sectors of the US and UK populations are pretty much the same, and for the rest of the developed world as well.
I'm about to swear now. If you are under 18, easily offended or religious in any way, look away now. In fact, you should probably look away anyway, just in case.
****ing capitalism.

Aw, it blanked it out. Let's try again. Same rules as before. Turn away and think of fluffy bunnies and rainbows. Picture them. Got it? Good.

I was just about to say that Pebz. @ Bobsy, I suggest you remove the profanities from the board. Why else would we have a filter?

I second Nippy and Pebz. And so what if you get games 10 days later? You still get them. There's far worse things than that to get upset about.

Though it is frustrating, I do not feel 'screwed over' by not having the game first. Hit the biggest market....hit the market that has no qualms about complaining if things aren't right...then we get the game and the patch is out already.
btw - avoiding the filters will get you into trouble....

And btw - speaking as a european gamer, I'd say 10 days is the least delay I've ever seen in a game from the states to europe.

I agree 10 days to Europe is very quick, really nothing to complain about, of course were not among those who wait longest in Denmark because we dont need a translated version. I do like the way Blizzard makes worldwide releases though, and i feel that you have to give them some credit for that.

I'm not posting to complain too (i'm european and still waitin

) but not long ago we debated 'bout the great delay of the game 'cause of the worldwide release date to stop piracy (lol, it's on every damn server on the net already ...

) that Bioware claimed .... well, this didn't happen and we'll still have it in english (no prob at all for me even 'cause translations are 90% of the time lame) 'cause the release date for the translated version is September 9th.
I repeat, i'm not complainin 'cause a week or 10 days are nothin but a bit more of sincerity and respect would have been much appreciated ...
PS: For all the european fellows ... see it this way --> the game looks like has some bugs, when we'll get it the patches are out already
Let's go get some fresh air 'cause from Friday we'll have to live a new adventure

You're bemoaning the distributors for being *BAD WORD* capitalists...because you CAN'T buy their product?? Looks to me like Interplay have adopted an anti-globilization policy -- you should be congratulating them! (J/K

)
Seriously, it is getting better...look at the console market for an indication of how bad things could be. Movie distribution also used to be pretty bad but that seems to have recently improved too (at least for the UK anyway).

Jeeper cripes*, man. Just because it's the least delay (it isn't) doesn't make it right. There is absolutely NO reason (no-one's come up with one) why there's a ten day delay. So why should we find this acceptable? Answer: we shouldn't.
Oh, and on the swearing thing? Don't be so harsh. I did put in masses of warnings for anyone who may be offended. That's why they were there, see? I think a little more liberality with language would be very much appreciated, considering the majority of posters on these boards are very mature and can deal with it.
*see how nice and restrained I am with my language now? How good of you to correct me in the error of my ways.

Actually, several reasons which were listed by Bioware.
1.) Manpower limitations. They have to translate all of it.
2.) Shipping limitations. Albeit not a big deal, but a deal nonetheless.
Basically, it takes a tad more time to get it marketable.
And changing "Color" to "Colour" everywhere takes so damn long...

I think Crosswinds is right. There is much work that we don't think of.
