Crashing problems

Is it just me or does Marrowind crash a lot for you too? If I'm very lucky I can get a good 30 mins of solid playtime before the game crashes on me. It tends to crash when it's loading an exterior, interior, or sometimes even a chest. Please tell me why it's doing this and how to fix it... 
btw I'm running it on a alienware platform with a 1.0 ghz AMD thunderbird processor 256 megs of ram and an NVDIA GeForce 2 GTS. My OS is Windows XP proffessional... if that's any help
