Lower level of Helm's Hold

In Helm's Hold, I chose to go on the stairs UP before the stairs DOWN, and now I cannot exit the top level. Is there anything worthwhile in the lower level that I would want as a wizard? By lower level, I mean the LOWEST, by going on the 'stairs down'. Thanks.

the lowest level is another way into helm's hold, I have never used that entrance so I can't say whether or not there is something special there, though I doubt it, probably just some more things for you to kill.

One reason to go down * spoiler *

*** spoiler ***

If you go downstairs in Helm's Hold, talk to the boy you meet at the bottom of the stairs. He has a shop that offers some unique items including a "real" bag of holding -100 weight. A good place to sell your items if you are getting encumbered.

Other than that, there are the barrels/boxes/crates to loot and a few undead to kill.

You can free the Guard captain from his cell and meet an OLD ONE's follower.

I did nearly the same thing, only I neglected to search the caves. I wasn't missing anything great was I?

Damn this game is just SO BIG!!! I'm sure I'll appreciate it later, but for now, well, it's just daunting! I just got to chapter two and there's stuff everywhere, I gave up trying to fight some orc dudes (the hard ones, not the pushovers) because there were stairs and caves leading all over the place.

I gotta get some maps, then I'll feel calmer. Maybe that strategy guide...

I know what you mean...I am on chapter 2 and I feel the same way: "dang this dungeon is big! Oh wait this other dungeon is even bigger!"
