Druid can't summon

I set aside my druid a while back to play another class, and recently took it up, again. She's 7th level. After casting a IV Summon (a dire spider), she rested, and the spider vanished. Well and good; but when she rose, the icon for casting the spell was dulled, despite no longer having the summoned animal. So was the I Summon, a dire badger. They won't cast. Anybody have any ideas what's going on?

I've had some weirdness with my spells - my fighter/sorceror has magic missile grayed out when I right click on the character and try cast through the regular radial menus. There is no reason why I wouldn't be able to cast it, and other 1st level spells are castable. I think it is some kind of bug, but you know me I am not a complainer
Anyway, in my experience I was able to assign the spell to a quickslot and cast from there fine, and I prefer going through quickslots anyway when possible. So maybe that would work for you, at least to cast the spell even though it is not really a solution.
!!!!!!!!!!!!oops almost forgot to use a ?bunch? of superfluous punctuation! for Fable

!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

@Fable, I did a search and found this
http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic ... uid+summon it appears to be a common problem, I could have copied loads of links, the common advice appears to be to put the spell in your quick slot, and to ensure you are clicking on the ground and not your character when you cast the spell. I don't know if this helps, it could well be a bug...

@Yshania, thanks. My guess is that the game removed the summoned animal upon sleeping, but forgot to free up a flag; so that it still thinks I have a creature tailing my druid. It appears to only happen with that IV Summon, not the I Summon, which casts suspicion on that spell, alone.
Fortunately, I'd saved no more than 30 minutes earlier.

Lucky you had a save then

Did you know there is an action to unsummon? I just thought...to avoid this happening again in the future. I think I will take care to use this I think, just in case

Hmmm. So far my druid hasn't had this problem, and he summons
alot! That spider is great in battle.

However, I was surprised when I discovered the trick of certain spells being grayed out depending on where I click (as Yshania noted above) - I can't cast combat offensive spells on myself, and I can summon on top of a henchman or chest. This doesn’t sound like Fable's issue, but it might help The Jaker.

I have found that placing the summoning spells on the quick bar removes the problem I had--thanks, @Yshania, for the tip! The spells are still grayed out if the wheel is used.

@Gwally - yes this is right, you have to pick a space on the ground to summon, somewhere also that is not too far away. Bringing up the wheel by clicking on your character and trying to summon is trying to summon a dire boar on your head

not the best place to keep one...
@Fable - you are welcome, I am glad it works

I do believe this to be a bug though, but it is nice to be able to get around it...
<edit> regarding places to click for spells - this also applies to Entangle, and other area effect spells - you click on an area and not on a target as such...
regarding offensive battle spells, you need to bring up your control wheel by clicking on the target of your spell...
