I've just started playing NWN and I was wondering what kinds of familars people prefer. At the moment I am playing as a lv3 Sorcerer and My Familar is a panther named Xeros. I have to admit he comes in qute handy as a bodyguard as he tends to dish out more damage than I do at the moment.

I prefer the panther to,
comes in ahndy in the early fights.
the only problem is that if you're familiar dies you lose HP's.

Haven't played a Wizard/Sorceror yet, but it seems to me that the Pixie is an excellent choise. That way, there is no need for Tomi and you can take another Henchman and use him as a bodyguard (the Barbarian or the Monk). Should he die, you can simply transport yourself with the stone and fetch him back again.

My sorcerer/rogue (currently 6/1 in chapter one) uses the panter exclusive.
The panter has killed a lot of my enemies thanks to sneak attack

Dousn't you're henchman level down when he dies?

Level down? So he could level up again when you talk to him about experience? What would be the point?
In short, no.

He does?! I though he just stood raised and rested, waiting for you to fetch him. But if that is so, can't you just "talk him up" again?
EDIT: Gotta type quicker next time...

Even if your henchman *did* somehow lose experience, like you do, the manual states that you can never "lose" a level. So even if he did lose experience, who cares? He would still level up when you do, so it really wouldn't matter.

The Pixie at every level so far has been the best. She can disarm traps and pick locks. The Henchman that I use is either Daelen or Grimclaw. My Summon is a Dire Tiger. So far nothing can compete with the fearsome foursome... and if your familiar dies you take 1d6 damage. You do not lose perm hit points.

Pixie
I play a wizard and im currently lvl 7 or 6 can't remember, but I have only tried the pixie, and its very nice with its trap an lockpick skills.
But I HATE the noise it makes, all the time there is this ringing noise, it's so annoying that I tried to diable some of the sound options, but then the game got somewhat boring with no sound efx.
Does anyone know how to disable that annoying ringing sound ?

The Panter has Sneak Attack?

The panther can turn invisible so many times per day, depending upon its level. That's probably what they were referring to.

OK, then I get it. Because as far as I know, attacking from invisible or stealth doesn't automaticly give you a Sneak Attack (less you have that Feat).
Is there really any nead for the Panter's Invisibility when he/she has Hide and Move Silently? What's the point in going invisible in battle if you get no bonus upon attacking?

I guess the panther level equals your character level? My druid is level 3, and I have not noticed the panther turn invisible
![Confused ](./images/smilies/)
I have seen his sneak attack many times, though it does appear to be random....

Thats because only the wizard familiar panther, not the druids companion panther has the ability to go invis. After you are a level 5 caster most of the familiars get special abilities. Firebreathing for the Hell Hound, Invis for the panther, so on and so forth. And yes the panther familiar does sneak attack. If you look when you choose it at level up it doesnt say animal level X it says Rogue level X. The panther has rogue levels and therefore can and does sneak attack, a lot.
