I can't get into Deirex's castle though I have the rope- is it worth doing?

I finished the egg quest, and Phaere and the Matron both died. I had no problems getting out of the city and killing everything on standard difficulty.

(1) I have numerous saved games and I am thinking about going back to do Deirex's tower (plus freeing the slaves). Is it worth doing? I have Keldorn who occasionally uses a crossbow and I read a +4 crossbow is found inside there.

(2) I was never able to get into Deirex's tower even though I got the rope. I have the rope - it says the door is magically warded or something along those lines. How do I get in?

(3) I'm not sure if I can take a Lich. I did not do many of the early sub-quests; I picked up Naila as my mage and wanted to get rid of her so went ahead and saved Imoen. I have never fought a lich. My Archer (+1 bow), Flail of Ages, +3 drow longsword (2 in Flail, 1 in longsword I think) has lich specialty. Minsc is in the party and has specialty in maces but has +3 skullcrusher and +1 mace of disruption plus some 2 hand weapons. I have Keldorn, Jaheira, Aerie and Imoen, but Aerie as I recall is only has 1 level 6 slot and she may have gotten it after the matron died.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

From what i remember the crossbow is nothing special, My Keldorn has a giant hair crossbow that he uses over this one,

The Lich is easy compared to the other Liches, you shouldn't have too much trouble

You can find a plus three scimitar if you do the quest, though I can't recall quite where exactly...

Its really not all that great a quest. If you get the magical rope however, just try all the entrances til you get in. Shouldn't be that hard. Is it worth reloading for? Nope.

U get a +3 scimitar and various other jewels.

After u go in, u are teleported into Jarlaxles lair, and he tells u to fight the Lich and retrieve some soul stones. If u do and get the loot, he comes back and gives the Huse Jaellet(sp?) warstone which lets u go in. U fight a ton of guards, plus the matron and her daughter and get their loot. It has good xp, but not so many items. If u free the slaves and give them armor and weapons u get xp and a rep bonus.

Yes it's worth doing. Go to the very bottom door, its the only way in. I attacked before he talked and the game went to a movie but we kept fighting and he couldn't cast spells so I killed him and then when I was sent back down he was dead so I didn't have to fight him.
