Potion Brewing
Ok, in Ch.2 you find a note to Quint Jareg explaining how to make a potion using an empty bottle, a healing kit, and then casting the desired spell to be instilled into the potion. I figure a couple of Potions of Greater Restoration would come in handy, no? I have all the ingredients, but I can't figure out how to actually do it. Someone care to explain it to me?

bah bah, sig? Me? naaa.
Got this from the Stratics board - to make the potions you place the empty bottle and the healer's kit in the alchemist's table (the one giving off a magical aura) then cast the spell on the table.
All that being said in the search for this information I've forgotten what spells were found in the holy urns - does anyone recall what they were so I can figure out what potions to make? And what do we do with the potions once we've made them? I assume it has something to do with cleansing the shrine to Lothander?

Well the scrolls inside the holy urns that I got were remove disease and remove blindness/deafness. I tried to cast those on there and all I got was a big shock in the butt for my efforts. While I do agree that there has to be someway to cleanse the shrine and there fore make potions or vice versa I don't know what it is. I have even tried to use scrolls of restoration, because the letter says to stick to potions you know. ALso I think they have to be divine potions, so something along the lines of healing potions. Anyone been able to cleanse the shrine and make potions?

My 11 Rogue was able to successfully create a potion of lesser restoration, but only once (I tried twice with two scrolls) and it seems that your first crack at lesser restoration potion is auto-succeed and anything after that you're on your own. Another reason I believe this is because at a town merchant there's a significant price difference between authentic potions of restoration and your own "homemade" brand. I believe I was offered a mere 80 gold pieces for the potions I created while my authentic potions were offered 460 gold pieces.
I haven't tried remove disease/blindness/deafness but I saved my game at the table so I could try various potions armed with the knowledge I gathered here so I'll cheeck it out. The question is what do you do with the potions after you create them? Place them in the pile of skulls at the base of Lothander's statue? Also keep in mind that you're only given 2 empty bottles and healer kits, so whatever solution (if there is one) to cleansing the temple should require 2 potions - and I'm almost certain that one of them will be the lesser restoration potion. But enough speculation I'll go try things out and post back.

Err...damn. I was afraid of that. I left the castle about 10 game hours ago. Oh well. I was kind of hoping any old alchemist set would do...

Here's an update. I just finished combing Quint's tower and found an additional bottle and healer's kit so I now have 3 bottles, 2 normal healer kits and a healer kit +1. Despite the added supplies I have found NO success whatsoever in creating any potions other than lesser restoration. Your first effort at lesser restore is an auto-succeed because there is no initiative roll for it, while subsequent attempts to create more potions of lesser restoration do have initiative rolls and the resulting explosions in your face. The successful first attempt will create 5 potions but I'm not sure how many are required to solve the puzzle, if there even is one.
I noticed that there are two normal urns flanking the desecrated statue of Lothander but placing a lesser restore potion in each of them did nothing. I went tried various combinations filling holy urns and regular urns, as well as the skull pile at the statue's feet, with lesser restore potions to no avail although it is conceivable that I might have missed something important. I'm stuck guessing that the solution probably involves the 2 regular urns and the skull pile by the statue, but what we fill them with I haven't a clue.
As for the other, unused/unuseable bottles I don't know what potions we are expected to make with them. Datt, if you did indeed find a scroll of remove deafness/blindness in one of the holy urns I simply cannot create a potion with it so I have to guess that it is not part of the solution. I tried various methods of approach - removing armor, switching out each of the three empty bottles and kits I have, and trying to make the blind/deaf potion before the auto-succeed lesser restore with no success. I appear to not have any Remove Disease scrolls at all so I'm wondering if the scrolls found in the urns is random? So if a second (and third) potion is required for this puzzle I don't know what spells you are expected to cast.

I believe you can only make potions that are in the game. SInce I have never came across a Remove Disease potion, that would make sense as to why they can't be created. So I am thinking you can only make things along the healing lines, Aid, Bless and the like. I think to solve the puzzle, has something to do with creating potoins of some sort, and then placing them in the glownig holy urns. But what potion that would need to be, I have no idea.
