ok now i got the bmu but i can't equip the metal rod, which means i can't use the ammo right? any ideas as to why this is happening? my char is a paladin, but i've heard the unit works with everyone. i'm able to equip the armor and the ammo but not the metal rod, which i think i need to shoot the ammo.

Are you using any kit for the Paladin, Cavalier cannot use range weapons. Just use another crossbow, the ammo works with any crossbow.
