Stop! I don't want to hurt you!

Does anybody have some good idea about the "best tactic" to deal with creatures that attack you, when you don't want to kill them?

(I mean, tipically, charmed party members... your summoned creatures turning hostile to you for some silly reason... commoners you hit by accident with some fireball..)

I'm almost never able to figure out what is the "correct" thing to do, when similar circumnstances arise

Dispell Magic on party members or just run away from them.
Summons-Just kill them, you can summon more and if they've turned hostile they won't often turn back before being unsummoned.
Innocents you've got annoyed at you-2 methods: Kill themImage or Charm/Dominate them and move them to stand besides a guard. When the charm wears off they'll be hostile again and the guard will kill them for you.

Hold Person and then walk away is another alternative.

Unfortunatly, Dipel Magic doesn't always work.
Hold person maybe stands a little better chance depending on the saving throw-resistances-immunities of the intended target, but again is far from the perfect solution of the problem...

I mean, we know that Remove Fear, Remove Paralysis, Cure Disease, Stone to Flesh, Remove Curse and the like always work when used properly (ie on creatures affected by fear, paralysis, disease etc.)
Is there nothing so specific to negate charme?
I tried with Chaotic Commands, but it has no effect on an already-charmed npc :( (this disappointed me very much).

Speaking of hostile creatures, I know that getting rid of them without killing them is not an easy thing, but I would not ask the question if it was!

I'd just like to listen something really tricky ;)

I cast web if I'm not in a city, if I'm in a city and don't want the cowled wizards to show up, I bait them with my main character who wears the boots of speed.

If you are in a building get one of your characters (whose being attacked) to walk into a room and when they are followed in leave shutting the door behind. I dealt with a nasty sword I couldn't damage that way and it was unsummoned soon enough. If you decide to charm people nymths cloak and ring of human influence are very useful.

But some actors are charmed so hard there's no breaking though.

Like Haer'Dalis, you can't break the spell on him.
Or inside D'Arnice Keep, Glacias the bodyguard.
I heard that it's possible to break his charm, but when I casted Charm Person nothing happened.
Would a Dispel Magic do the trick?

If it's an innocent bystander, you could knock them out....or turn them into a squirrel with polymorph other.

Spoiler

to remove the charm on Glacias the bodyguard you need to charm and the cast dispell - I only worked this out a week ago and have always killed him before now.

How could I avoid such a thread?!?!?! :D :D

Paesants: hey, just hit them with fists. They'll sleep like kids.
As for killing them accidentally, it WON'T happen, 'cause
you WON'T cast area spells with people around, will you???!

Party Members: every effect has its counter-effect.
Not a problem, Imho.
Remove Magic works when they're red.
And you can always have Immie hit them with Staff of Magi in the
head (low damage), and dispel everything that way
(as someone said, sort of "what's up with you?!?!" :D )
Or you can simply wait for the effect to wore off,
avoid their attacks, go invisible, cast haste and run...
Or again hit them with fists.

Real Enemies: eheh, here comes the fun!!!!
Not always possible, though.
You have to be dedicated!
Memorize G. Malison, Doom to lower their saves.
Then go with Spook (up to -6 save), symbol Stun (-4 save),
Horror, Emotion, Hold Person, Web, whatever.
They'll lose sooner or later...
Avoid being killed while at work! :D

The Glaicas encounter is bugged, but there's a fix out there.

Does anybody know what's the patch for Glacias and what it exactly does?

@Giant space ham: agreed, doors work wonders when available ;)

Seriously? I always tought you needed some special ability (like monks') to stun people with your fists

Still, I'm wondering why nobody's giving the most obvious answer...
Ah well, interesting answers are... more interesting than the obvious ones :D

Nope, keep punching them and they'll be knocked out eventually. Great fun when you have a single weak enemy like that mad cleric of Cyric in the docks, just make a smart-ass quip about "I won't have to poke out my eyes will I?" and keep punching him out.

I would have thought Feeblemind would have worked well too.
