Just wondering:

The Elder Scrolls, (Morrowind, Daggerfall, etc), did that originate from AD&D?

Somewhere I heard that it was originally a campaign setting or module or something for AD&D back in the old days?

Also wondering if these are the same Elder scrolls you find in Forgotten Realms mythology.

If anyone can shed some light on the origin of the setting I'd appreciate it. Else I'd assume its just a setting invented by the CRPG developers.

no i don't think it is anything D&D AT ALL. I AM USING A BATTLEMAGE. HE CAN WEAR ARMOR CAST SPELLS ETC. BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED, I SAY BUY IT.

Nope. Absolutely no connection to D&D. The name 'The Elder Scrolls' was come up with at the last minute. The first game in the series, 'TES: Arena', was originally just 'Arena'. It was originally not going to be a role playing game but rather gladiator style combat. During development but after initial advertising campaigns (under the name Arena) were started, they turned it into an RPG. Since the title Arena no longer made much sense, they renamed it but kept Arena as a subtitle -- along with a very lame in-game explanation as to why.

Bethesda has remained blissfully free of any taint of doing things the D&D way, for which many of us are quite greatful
