Okay since polls are popular at the moment this might aswell be one. I was wondering if anyone uses the single weapons style. I havent used it all since I dont think it is very useful. I f you have used it, what character did you use it with. I guess a single class thief could use it an assassin perhaps. But I was really only thinking of fighter classes.
So the poll is: Which weaponstyle do you think is the best for Rangers, Fighters, Barbarians and Paladins?

I love two weapon style but one thing I hate about it is that in bg you cant use ranged weapons while off hand weapon equipped so everytime my assassin/fighter wanna use his thrown dagger he musta remove his offhand katana 1st

Although I can see the need for sword + sheild style (thinking of Jaheira) two weapon style is so much more fun!

Two-weapon style. Perfect for rangers; hell, in ToB, looks good w/ paladins as well (Purifier/Angurvadal or Foebane/Purifier)

i have to say, two weapons is truly the most stylish way to mash an unfortunate minion. maybe not the most useful, but hey, like i care

So I am still the only one who prefers sword and shield. And nobody seems to be using two handers. Looks like the different styles werent very well balanced eh?

they're quite wel balanced, and i hardly ever use 2 weapon style unless i'm using a Kensai, but sword and shield's boring

2 weapon style - you deal out damage a lot quicker. As a Warrior, your THAC0 decreases quite steadily, and when you're a fighter with Grandmastery in a weapon and three stars in dual-wielding, using two of your selected weapon, who needs a shield?

2 Weapon - Simply because the thought of two blades slashing at, and hacking up enemies at the same time is just so kewl.

Can I vote: TwoHandedWeapon style= The BOW!!!!
(Do I annoy u guys with my ARcheR and his great BOW skills??)
If this doesnt count: Im all the way for a TwoWeapon style.
I really like dualwielding Blackrazor with the Equalizer
(but I guess this isnt new either.....lol)

i'll have to go with dual-weilding, for all the reasons stated above, and the interesting (READ: CHEASY) immunities that can be provided by using two weapons at once.
I was wondering if anyone uses the single weapons style.
i do. IMHO, this is THE style for a kensai, and kensai-thiefs. the reasons being the AC bonus, and the improved (1/20 vs. 2/20 = DOUBLED!!!) chance for critical hit, which come realy handy in kai+bacstabs, esp. for high variance (i.e 1d10/1d12) damage weapons
sword & shield - not worth the points in the style, but definatly worth having a char using a shield, for all the good shields
2 handed style - very useful, worh putting at least one * for the big guys, which seem to end up in every party, since the two-handed weapons are so powerful.

Double it up, and knock them down, because dual weilding rules!!!!! Think about it, Celestial fury, the equalizer, the two best one handed swords, both being used as one, besides, it doubles the number of attacks per round making g. whirlwind much better

I like dual-wielding of course.
hhm, just decided this combo for my FUTURE game with my not_so_aggressive_Kensai/Mage:
I'll go for D'akkon Blade + Hindo's Doom.
Not very destructive, but cool!!!
D'akkon blade, well, I just love this "tactical" weapon!
A bit of defense + additional, handy spells.
No great power, but, hey.
Hindo's Doom has Death Ward!!!!
It blocks even Vorpal Effects!!!
Can save your day in the Ascension final....
Also fitting for the main char (having a permanent Death Ward I mean)

One weapon is ok.
Two weapons is 1337.

It depends on the character and the weapon(s) she wields. Duh.
For example, if I'm playing an elven Archer, I like to put one proficiency point in Single Weapon Style, one proficiency point in Longsword (she gets a racial bonus), and the rest in Longbow. It's inconvenient to use a shield, since she normally wields a bow. With the way I distributed her proficiency points, if she has to switch to a melee weapon (the longsword), she'll have an AC bonus and twice the chance of getting a critical hit, as well as the racial bonus.
If I were playing a non-elven Archer, again, I wouldn't bother trying to equip her with a shield. I'd probably put one proficiency point in Two Handed Weapon Style and a proficiency point in Two Handed Sword, Spear, Halberd, etc, since a two-handed weapon is generally superior to a one-handed weapon. If I felt like it, I could also give her an extra point in Two Weapon Style and let her dual-wield whatever weapons she is proficient with, but having to put down her bow and equip a weapon in her off-hand is inconvenient, so I prefer to equip her with a two-handed weapon next to her bow. Or, if I thought she needed an AC bonus in melee, I could give her a point in Single Weapon Style and let her wield a powerful one-handed weapon. Racial bonus or not, it's not a bad deal. There are lots of choices for an Archer.
Some of my other characters wield two-handed weapons, so of course I give them proficiency points in Two Handed Weapon Style. It wouldn't make any sense not to.
Some of my other characters dual-wield. It wouldn't make any sense not to give them proficiency points in Two Weapon Style.
If I player a Fighter that has low Dexterity, I usually have her carry a shield, but I don't bother putting any points in Sword and Shield Style. I think the points are better spent elsewhere. If she's assaulted with a lot of missile weapons, I equip her with the Reflection Shield and let would-be snipers do themselves up a treat.
I realize that you're talking about Fighter-classes, but the Weapon Styles apply to other classes, as well. For example, when I play a Thief, it makes sense to give her one proficiency point in Single Weapon Style. Since I normally equip her with a Short Bow, having her switch to a buckler when she needs to wield a melee weapon is inconvenient. Single Weapon Style gives her an AC bonus without using a bucker, and twice the chance of getting a critical hit. You'll notice that's what Yoshimo has. A truly wise choice.

it was for those classes but yet people talk about thieves. this poll isn't very well labeled. I voted 2 handed weapon style, I think that it really depends on which class it though. for a fighter, ranger, paladin, and barbarian it is much wiser to use a two handed sword I say since they get really powerful later on. I used to use two long swords for my fighter but I changed. unless it's a combo like Korgan fights with two handed style is better.
now for Clerics, Druids, Thieves, and Bards two weapon style is better I think. I used to have them use a shield towards the begining of the game but I change later on in the game from what powerful one handed weapons that they use.
as for the wizard they can't put points into any weapon styles.
In conclusion I think that this poll was poorly labeled (I voted 2 weapon style before reading the first post). still 2 weapon style can be very useful.

IWD2 changes that. You right-click on your weapons area in the command interface at the bottom of the screen, and choose from up to four groupings of weapons and shields.

i actually love both two and two handed...
flayer lair? soul reaver +6 and firetooth crossbow loaded up with frag skulls...switch between for 110 magic immunity(soul reaver +6 ADDs magic resistance, so with amulet of seldarine, robe of vecy, and cloak of baldy i am immune to magic anytime)
skulls for quick, cheap kills, and switch to sword to ward off domination spells...
clestial fury +% and acid for more fun....and masses of enemys..
