Wild Mages don't sukk!

Since I recently started another game with a Wild Mage I searched the forum for posts about this kit. I couldn't find a lot, especially in terms of role-playing. Nobody seems to like the kit that much.
It's a fun kit IMO though, because a Wild Mage is a bit harder to play and the unpredictability is very very neat. It's fun to play a char who's really sure of himself but accidentally casts Fireball in the middle of a though fight where it should have been Summon Animal  :o
Has anyone taken a WM through the entire game, including ToB? Does anyone LIKE the kit?

The idea is pretty good.
But I've never played a WM. It's IMO one of the best thought up kits in ToB.

I have finished ToB with a wild mage.

You're right they don't suck, in fact along with sorcerer they are the most powerful single class. The unpredictable events are quite cool - usually they don't force to reload, and sometimes make you laugh ("take this falling cow oh evil one").

The Dwemenor (sp?) is a very useful spell later in the game, and clever use of this spell is the key to making the WM really rock (you can cast dragon's breath as a lvl 1 spell - who cares if you only have a 60% chance or whatever!)

For some reason however in my game I never received the improved chaos shield - oh well.

I was sort of wondering about that - how the heck DO you get improved chaos shield? There aren't any scrolls in the game with this spell. I figured you'd get this spell automatically when you lvl up... you know, priest-style.
