57K Bounty...

I have a 40th lvl character with a 57K bounty...All guards attack me on site and will not negotiate. Most NPC's won't talk to me; it's getting lonely...Is there a way to pay this bounty and/or clear my name? I think it all started after I tried to take some 50K book... not to mention a few kills (esp. guards)...I have no previous saves available. Am I screwed?
