Who and what are the best villians of this realm. If you have a favorite explain why.

Artemis Entreri!

Artemis Entreri, he's clearly the most evil and cool villian in the Forgotten realms.

errtu is the best in my opinion. classic demon absorbed with power, destroys his followers, tortures for pleasure, all the standard for a villain. but artemis entreri and shakti hunzrin are good too

Jarlaxle is mighty fine to.

I think you have to be a little more specific because both Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle were wussed out as bad guys by the time Salvatore was through with them.

Entreri was at his most evil in Streams of Silver. He was mysterious, ruthless and he kidnapped one of the main progatonists, so we almost automatically didn't like him. On the other hand, he was the best villain in The Halfling's Gem as he was toying with Drizzt Do'Urden. After the Icewind Dale Trilogy, he went off to live with the drow and by the end, seemed almost repentent because he realised that he was suddenly in a city full of people just like himself; his status as a major villain was eclipsed by Errtu and Matron Baenre.

Jarlaxle was never a great villain, although he was a very good character with lots of shades of grey. He was always a secondary character or plot device, so he was never used to his full extent. Jarlaxle was also intriguing because he lacked the characteristic drow bloodlust; this made him a variable among a people we know to be ruthless and evil. Still, I maintain that Jarlaxle was never a true villain or antagonist because he never had any of his own plans to do in the heroes.

Just curious but what else did Artemis go on to do. I usually don't like most villian (I suffer from a rare disease where I always play the good guy in games and do a terrible villian that dies quickly) but Artemis was different even when he was still the bad guy. He is one example of a Lawful aligned rouge. He is organized and has an honor system. Most people think that lawful means they have to fallow the law.

i always had a soft spot for villains. you might have already seen my post on vierna and when i start reading the rest of legacy im going to mentally add vierna as a cleric of elistraaee(she had a turn of thought with a flashback and repented her ways) and anyway we could always use another babe

I agree that Jarlaxel wasn't villian.

Almost all of the named female drow were vilians instantly, Baenre, and Drizzt sister(The name escapes me, but its the one that survives the house invasion). The males don't seem to have the want to be villians, they just go along what the females want them to, of coarse they are meant to.

Have you read Servant of The Shard. If you have, you would agree he IS evil.

But Jarlaxle spent most of Servant of the Shard under the influence of Crenshinibon, so the question becomes: Was Jarlaxle acting out of character or was he doing the same things he normally would have done?

I believe that he was acting out of the ordinary; his associates say as much. If he was acting under the supernatural influence of the Crystal Shard, does that make him evil?

I seem to remember that, Drizzt or some other good guy, said that only evil people is affected by the Crinshinibon.

The new Shadovar are awesome really liked how they brought them back into the material plane.
Favorite for all the realms is Strahd Von Zarovich tho....the D&D version of Drac.

When Salvatore said Artimus was drizzts equal and opposite, it worked on two levels in game and out game. In game they are opposed, passionate helps, and passion doesn't help, but out of the book drizzt is ng Arty is ne, well I think he should now(after reading the first three serieses) be LN(he isn't just for himself, he has a code etc) and his double is Jarlaxel. LN can be a villian.

Same here, I just recently picked it up and I really liked it. It's strange how the first two books, The Silent Blade and Spine of the World were in my opinion terrible, but Servant of the Shard and Sea of Swords were excellent. I can't wait for The Thousand Orcs.

Well, have you completed Bg2 or read some Drizzt books? If it was the first: When you were in Ust Natha, you were aproached by a drow merchant trying to sell a magical rope, which can deactivate some wards in a liches house. You bought it (you simply CAN'T refuse ). You go to the liches house, deactivate the wards, enter the house, the lich sees you, he casts imprisonment, you get teleported to Jarlaxle.
If it was the latter(which I doubt): Jarlaxle is a mercenary, who works with the Matron mothers in the drow city(Menzoberanzan) Drizzt comes from..... well, IF you read some books with Jarlaxle, I think you would remember him.

Btw, you could have read a Drizzt book, where they talk about Jarlaxle.
