something that made my day

There's really no point to this other than it made me laugh:

My wife and I went out for dinner the other night at a restaurant that's across from the civic center. That night, there was a concert in town; I forget who, but it was a band that plays loud, angry music.

The place was overrrun with teenage kids wearing black shirts and black pants, odd hair cuts often dyed colours that aren't natural to any human follicle, dog collars and piercings in every place imaginable and tattoos galore. The people waiting for the gates to open were obviously a crowd that styled themselves as non-conformists or folks who were out of the social mainstream.

There was one kid who stood out to me and after we left the restaurant, I couldn't stop laughing at the thought of him. He was probably 16 years old and wearing a black shirt with a big, red "anarchy" symbol on both the front and the back. He was standing in line.

LOL. A very similar thing happened to me th other day. Two guys got on the bus, both wearing beige combats and biege vests, revealing their arms all the way up. They had evidently just had henna tattoos applied at one of the little stalls on Cornmarket St (in the centre of Oxford), but curiousy, they both had identical markings, and in exactly the same place. I was interested to know if they were actually wearing exactly the same clothes, so I surrepticiously examined the label on one of the guys vests....it was made by a company who's motto was BE YOURSELF. :D

That is so sweet! :D Reminds me of a friend of mine who has a totally erranous self-image. He is a very nice, almost prudent Englishman who comes from a very "good background". He loves to see himself as a rebel, as someone unconventional and exciting, so he rebels a lot - by drinking wine in a water glass or ...or *gasp* drive 10 miles too fast on the highway! :D

Well he doesnt support rules with the anarchy shirt, yet he waits in line patiently. obviously obiding by the rules. A bit of irony, you see...

In defence

Or he could however mean something entirly different than "break laws" with the anarchy t-shirt... There is quite alot of anarchists that isnt against organization att all.

No worries. Sometimes the obvious is hidden. Its all in the perception of a given situation.
I have done that plenty of times  :D

Perhaps the shirt itself was ironic. He was having a joke at our expense. I have, myself, on many occassions, worn shirts made by Playboy and Pokemon. This is not to say that I read Playboy or watch Pokemon. It is a joke, or a statement at least, along Warhol-lines. Maybe this intellectual deviant has caught onto the fact that the very manufacture of the anarchy shirts is anti-anarchic, and is wearing one as a cynical and pessimistic insult to the consumerist, judgemental public.
I'd put money on him just being a **** though. :D

Rant

Lets gather ourselves for a moment and direct our anger correctly. I say anger because yes, Im pissed. It is not the fault of the young gullible boy who went down to his local hot topic to purcahse a cool anarchy shirt. The poor sap probably doesnt even know what the word Anarachy truly means.

Its the corporation's that spew out band memrabilia and other crap of the sort. Its the sell out shops that have become the staple for all you (I say you because once again, Im angry and its easier to point at you) punk-over-night kids. Its these stores that sell the "support your local punk band" yet dont let local bands put of flyers. I mean Ahh's is a store closer ot me than hot topic and this place is just a splurge of sell out material.

I've seen a million kids just like the one you saw, I've gotten in fist fights with kids because I challenged thier mojo (basically I said "Hey buddy rock on, fight the system... go to the mall")

Its all about spreading the word, instead of laughing at the kid. Go up to the kid and grab him by the throat, tear his shirt off and take his money. Kick him in the throat and let him know that your just following within your beliefe, the belief of anarchy.

Then scream in a loud angry voice "Cause IIIiiiiiiIIi WAnnnanaaaaaa BbbBEEeeeeee Annnaaarrchhhyyyy"

And cut that same anarchy sign into the boys chest.

(p.s. Inland Invasion tour 2, god I hate kroq but the sex pistols and circle jerks both getting back together. I mean the damned, adolescents ee.r.g.d...sd..v. so many bands... later.)

Again I think people have a very simplified view on what people call themselfs anarchists. The point for the majority of the anarchists I've met is not anti-organization or chaos but organization that lacks leadership. This is a huge difference.

@Frogus: Who knows, it might have been an ironic statement. I also wear clothes sometimes to provoke a thought or two or to make a statement. As I have told many of you, I like to dress up like a real bimbo when I go out clubbing. I also look considerably younger than my age if I put on makeup. Many times when guys come up and start a conversation they begin with asking what you do for a living. It is great to see their jaws drop when I tell them I'm a brain researcher. (I don't know about the rest of the world, but in Sweden, being a brain researcher is similar to the expression "rocket scientist", ie it symbolises an extremly intellectual type of job.) It is amazing how many people take for granted that you must be stupid because you have a tight dress.

A friend of mine who is 42 and a mother of three, went to a school meeting in a minimal pink t-shirt with the text "I am a sex godess". It turned out the teachers had called to the meeting to discuss her daughters problematic school behaviour, the girl had lost interest in school work and had only eyes for boys... :D

Me too :D

Gotta love them steriotypes, eh?
Something that lacks leadership often leads to chaos. Because with a lack of leadership, certain people will see how far they can get without getting in trouble. When they figure out how far they can get, other people will learn and do the same. Then there is a declination of society because everyone is pushing to find that line they cant cross. Then they push it further and this continues in a downward spiral to the inevitable chaos. Just my 2 cents.

Like you say, this is your opinion. I certainly dont agree, but I dont feel for a serious discussion about it right now. If you're interested in my pov here PM me, otherwise just let it drop.

The whole anarchy thing is a contradiction. For something that means lack of organization, and utter chaos, those people are sure trying to make it organized, which is what anarchy is against...

Also, I'm glad to say I don't follow the usual Punk stereotype (Yes, I'm a Punk Rocker, yet don't adopt the image).

@CE: Provokative, thought inducing clothing eh..... :D ;)

ROFL :D

That makes two of us - perhaps we could go together :D

Re: anarchy, I must agree with Dottolix here, people who are attracted to the idea of anarchy as a political system, are not people who want a chaotic soceity free of regulations, even if this is how many other people believe it would be. People who believe anarchy would be a good system, is often people who has a strong belief in the good sides of human nature, who believe in cooperation and striving for common goals and put emphasis on sharing power to none would have more power than another. It is quite beautiful in theory, although I personally don't believe it could work other than in smaller communities.
