BG, ToSC, BGII, ToB Character

If you were to play through all the Baldur's Gate series what character would you take? The ones that make sense to me are a Ranger 2/Cleric XX, Kensai 9/Mage XX, Swashbuckler 10/Fighter XX, and for me an Archer because ranged weapons are underrepresented. Any other ideas for characters to take all the way through?

Shouldnt it be a dual / muilti / single available from the start?

Since you cant have a Kensai swashbuckler or archer in bg1...

Thats my take anyways

You might have placed more options in your poll; that way, the results would really give a more definite impression of people's choices. :) I've played through four times in various professions, and think the sorc was most fun. If I do it again, though, I might try an archer.

Can I edit the choices of the poll? I didn't think there was any way to be a sorcerer if you started in BG.

Off topic on a thread I started. Answerer was my favorite sword but because you got it so late everything and it's dog needed a +5 weapon to hit it. I think I should make it a +3 and add it to one of the specialty merchants in SoA or something of the like.

Anybody know if I can add more poll options? And if so what should I add? There is only one other vote and that's for a sorcerer which it is impossible to be from the beginning.

Well, I would've voted for ranger/cleric, but dualing at level 2 is too low for me. At least level 7 for the extra half-attack. My personal preference is to wait until level 13.

And an assassin-13/fighter beats the crap out of the swashbucker/fighter anyday.

Ahh, what the heck. *Votes "other" and chooses assassin-13/fighter*

No, no way to edit. Well, maybe Buck has one, but mods can't, and that means you can't. :( I guess I would have listed every basic profession (along with wild mage), and then added choices simply marked "dual class" and "multiclass," requesting an explanation, below.

If you want to start up another poll, just go ahead and delete your first post in this one. That will remove the entire thread, then you can restart things. But it's entirely up to you. :)

The ranger/cleric is solid. With ToSC which I don't own you get a third tome of wisdom. One wisdom from hell and one from the machine of lum the mad. That's 5 or a total of 23 wisdom. That's +2 extra spells through 5th level. Insect plague, raise dead, and iron skins are all 5th level. This is probally the cheesiest way to go.

Maybe I'll do another poll later. How many options can I have?

Everybody post ideas as to what the choices should be.

Archer:
Any character the wants to make it through BG1 uses bows (thus archer)
And so i makes a good roleplaying character.
I still can't understand the rollplaying in a kensai/thief (don't flame me please don't)

I've played BG1 and BG2 several times, but the one character I took through the whole saga was a half-elven Cleric/Ranger. She was accompanied by Imoen in BG1. Coran joined them briefly when Imoen dual-classed to a Conjurer. In BG2, my character was accompanied by Imoen once again. (I pretended that Minsc and Jaheira didn't exist.) When Imoen was unavailable, my Cleric/Ranger either soloed the game or got some help from Nalia or Keldorn. She did Chapter Three all by herself (it was a walk in the park). After she was reunited with Imoen, they were never apart. The "new NPC" joined the party in Throne of Bhaal. My Three opposed The Five. My skills as a player had improved enormously after playing the game so many times, and I'm sure that had a lot to do with it, but I have to say that my Cleric/Ranger, along with Imoen and the "new NPC", was the best character I've ever played.

In most of my BG1 games, I played a Fighter. The first time I played BG1, I depended heavily on bows and slings to get through the battles. But the last time I played it (with my Cleric/Ranger and Imoen), I relied mainly on melee weapons and spells (as well as the effective use of items, potions, and scrolls). It sure seemed a lot easier that way.

The first time I played BG2, I played an Archer. She was a great sniper, and she had most of the kills. Then I played a Berserker dualled to a Cleric (before I had ever played with Anomen), followed by a Berserker dualled to a Thief. Then I played with three Bards (a Blade, a Jester, and a Skald). Then I hacked together a Stalker dualled to a Cleric. And finally, I played a game with a Cleric/Ranger, which was so much fun, I played with her in BG1, then played BG2 and ToB with her again.

Normally, I get more excited about the party of troubadours I played since it was such a challenge for me and I enjoyed roleplaying with their attitude, but I didn't play Throne of Bhaal with them. With the Ascension MOD installed, the saga came full circle, and I really enjoyed the story, so that's one reason why I've talked about my Cleric/Ranger so much.

This is a really fun game.

Please change the name of the ToB character to: The new ToB NPC/Enemy or somthing.
The people that have ToB know what you mean, the people that don't have it don't get to read a spoiler.
I read about the new NPC, and I didn't want to know.

See, you were a kensai, but you murdered your master, and all of your brothers in the dojo, so now you are a nasty thief, learning to wear armor and wreck it up with all your skills

Okay, I changed it. Why don't you edit his name out the quote in your post (or better yet, get rid of the entire quote, since it doesn't serve much purpose anymore).

FWIW, I agree with you about spoilers. I avoided message boards, reviews, etc. before I finished Throne of Bhaal just so I wouldn't be spoiled. And I certainly didn't visit a forum devoted to Throne of Bhaal and read a message thread titled "BG, ToSC, BGII, TOB Character". I mean, if I hadn't played ToB for at least ten or fifteen minutes, I wouldn't have known about the new NPC. :)

In bg1..Cg Elven Ranger, Bows and Large swords

str 17
dex 19+1 (Tome)
con 16+1 (Tome)
int 13
wis 15+1 (Tome)
char 17

By Soa I Kitted him to an archer, putting all prof into long bow
And when I got the gesen bow I litterally cried.. He still got loads of kills though
Ive played once through bg1 / bg2, once through b1 / totsc / bg2 and once through the whole thing

In bg1 Ce Darven Fighter Missle weapons and Halberd/Spear

Str 18/96 (+1 Tome)
Dex 17 (+1 Tome)
Con 19 (+1 Tome)
Int 9
Wis 3
Char 8

In bg2, Crossbow / Halberd

Once through all

I enjoyed both chars... The Bad guy dinnea get no romance :( but he made up for it by killing left and right and generally wreaking midget havoc from one end o' the sword coast to the other

I know maybe a haldberd isnt a very *Dwarvish weapon* but I love the way the wee folk look when there holding a *#$#ing huge X bow and.. It was either two handed sword, spear or staff

I don't understand why you don't use the Fighter/Mage/Theif, That is surely the best solo class.

Personally F/m/T annoys me way too much as the start of bg and soa, when you have no good kit and really need to rely on char strength, but your char is too weak at any one thing to do it well enough
