First Question:
I have played Baldur's through 2 times and everytime none of my wizards can get level 9 spells. they always get to level 8 spells then reach their expeirence cap so they can't get to level 9 spells. Is this just my game or a problem, because i can't see them putting level 9 spells in that you can't use.
Second Question:
I recently started as a mage, normal class. I hear you can create familiars. How do oyu do this and do oyu have to be at a certain level or have the planar sphere to attain this.

Answers:
1st Question: The only way to cast the lvl 9 spells with just BG2 is to put them in your quick-item slots and cast them from there. Otherwise you can get the expansion, "Throne of Bhaal" so you can gain more levels.
2nd Question: Just get the "Find Familiar" spell and cast it. No need to be a certain level.

Rather buy a legal copy of ToB and install it. Just my two cents.
Familiars just spend most of the time in your backpack. It's so sad.

another two questions then.
1. where can i get this xp remover you speak of.
2. in the jaheira romance you sleep in the wilderness and bandits come and capture her. i did this on my first file but now that i'm trying to do it again i can't remember what wilderness. i believe it's the ambush between athkatla and the de'arnise keep but everytime i try and rest it says i cannot sleep there.

1. The xp cap remover you can find somewhere on this site:
http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/index_teambg.htm
2. The banditattack doesn't happen in a specific area. You just have to be in the wilderness, that's all. In my game it happened just outside of watcher's keep.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
...but even with the X-cap remover you cannot use level 9 spells not unless your minimum intelligence is 18.

Don't get the remover if you plan on getting ToB. Like Mah said, you need a very high intellignece.

Umm, that's not true...high int helps the chance for scribing scrolls into your spell book and increases the number of spells you can have in your book but it doesn't stop you casting spells. Unless its some sort of weird pre-ToB rule or something.

...it's just that I assumed that it was AD&D rules that say that 9th level spells are supposed to be difficult to study, thus the minimum intelligence requirement. :
But then again, it's been some time since I last played PnP and the rules at most were 2nd Ed.
At any rate, thanks again for the clarification.
Heh, no problem
I seem to remember the PnP rules also stopped clerics of low wisdom from casting 6th and 7th level spells (hello Jaheira) -- I guess its another of the attribute based apsects of the rules that Bio. dropped for the sake of simplicity like the spell saving throw modifier for wisdom.
