I can't seem to find a good greatsword. I don't like that averything is randomized. I liked it better the way it was in baldurs gate.
Anyone got any tips how to find good items?

Randomized makes it more realistic. However there are some fixed casch locations out there (usually of really valuable and/or powerful items). I have never specalized in Greatswords and therefore have never had need of one so I can't help you, BUT I do remember coming accross at least a couple really powerful ones. Like I said, I don't remember where they are what they did since I don't need them, but I know they exist so you should just keep looking. Also, try making the Magical Greatsword at the chapter 1 and 3 Forges.

YOu should be able to find a greatsword +1 in chapter one, (only I can remember where, I belive that location is fixed) - and you should then get the blacksmith to improve it, still in chapter 1.
In chapter 2/3 you will proberly find a greatsword +2 and later +3 and get the blacksmith in chapter 3 to improve the +3 version.

I stumbled over some Greatsword +3 with 1d6 electrical damage (or something equally devoid of imagination) in Chapter 2/3.

There is a powerful greatsword in Luskan. You can buy it from the gnomish magical scientist who offers you a quest to repair his machine in the sewers. The sword is called Chaos Dagger, does +2 Damage, has +3 Vampiric Regeneration and some other beautiful features, I can´t remember right now. The guy also sells some other nice weapons, like the Gladiator longsword and a nice battle axe.

In chapter one the merchant at 20 and a quiver in the docks sells +1 versions of almost every weapon. I used the forge to upgrade about 7 items just to test them out.

iirc the green griffon inn sells the chaos dagger too, it's pricey (over 60,000 gp) but seems well worth it.

I normally would rather save the admantite for chap 3, since there's only 2 pieces of those in the whole game. If you use them all up now you won't be able to make the better sword later on.

There is more adamantite than that. It is random when you get it sometimes. I ended chapter one with 4 pieces one time even though I never got a diamond until nearly the end of chapter 2.

Always thought you could only get 3 pieces of adamantite one from Oleff after you've done his quest if you persuade him to give you a better reward that is.

3 adamantium bit's.
loxar, the hunter, & oleff
i'm wondering if the innkeeper @ the begger's nest has some too, but i've never been able to talk him out of it.

@ koz-ivan : It seems as if the merchant in Luskan is cheaper though, I only paid 53000 GP.

SPOILERISH
The Gemsword is the one that does the +3 (?) and electrical damage.
There are only three Adamantines in Chapter 1. The Beggar's Nest Innkeeper just gives you more gold I believe, maybe a minor weapon.
I would not smith a GS is chapter 1 if I were you, it isn't that much better and since Adamantine is so rare, it's better to smith the +3 in Chapter 3.

To add to my earlier post, you guys are correct, there are only 3 places where you can always get adamantine, I think the other part I got was random. Certain chests always give an item component but sometimes which one they give you may be random. I remember for a fact that once I opened a chest and got dragon's blood and then had to reload and the same chest gave me fairy dust.
