Semi-spoiler: Some general advice for Fellwood

Since the non-linear maze of Fellwood seems to be a sticking point for some people, I thought I'd toss out some general advice on dealing with it. There are two ways to make mapping it simple, one of which I know works, the other I believe will:
1. Drop some gold in each room. In the first room, drop 1 gold. In the second room, drop two gold, etc. (Actually, come to think of it, I'm not positive you can drop gold in IWD2. If you can't, gems work well too). As long as you don't rest, the gold will still be there after you leave the room. This will make it extremely simple to see if you've been to a room before, and to figure out which exits from which rooms lead to which other rooms.
2. Don't know for sure, but I -think- this will work also: use the map screens ability to make your own notes to label each room you come to. (Room 1, room 2, etc). You can also label each exit from a room with which other room it leads to (IE, SE = room 3, west = room 4, etc).
Fellwood -seems- a lot bigger then it really is. Even with all the rooms that are duplicates of each other, there are really only 12-15 different locations.

How did you find it? I mean, was it something you enjoyed, or a nuisance, or...?

Nuisance. But not too bad of one. Maybe it was because I was expecting it to be worse because of hearing how much you disliked it, but I didn't think it was -that- bad.
Btw, dunno if you realized it or not, but you can get directions through it (to various points) from a number of characters, if you speak to them with characters with appropriate stats/skills.

Thanks for the tip. Wound up using Cross-bow bolts. Dropped them one at a time. was able to tell which one I was in without going over and picking them back up.
Cheaper than gems.

Just trying to get in some playing time on my new machine; besides, I can't really get away with playing IWD2 at work (my boss kind of frowns on that sort of thing).
So here's the deal: I freed the ghosts in Fellwood and killed the Dark Treants. Now what do I do? My journal says that they will no longer swipe at passers-by and that they won't warp the paths anymore, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get through the woods to the next area.
Any help would be appreciated.

Be sure to return to town, first, to receive some additional experience for finishing the quest. (Just talk to the leader. I forget her name at the moment, and I'm too bleary-eyed to check my notes.) Then return to the area where you destroyed the TreeEnts, and leave by the northeast entrance. That will take you into a new region, where you can fight off frost spiders and barbarians. What fun!

Now that I've gotten through that headache
...and speaking of complaining about Fellwood, you should see BI's message boards. The developers responded and were very defensive about it. I agree with Fable that it's probably meant to sell strategy guides, or to advertise that the game is XXX hours long (when most of those hours are spent frustrated wandering around lost in Fellwood!!!)
Anyway, my advice for what it's worth:
1. If you have a ranger or druid with high Wilderness Lore skill, they can get you all the way through Fellwood, no problem. What I didn't realize until wayyyy too late is that if you use the Wilderness Lore skill and get a response that nothing is known about the area, keep clicking on the skill. You will eventually get a hint. I had a ranger with Wilderness Lore of 12, and I still had to do that several times.
2. If you do not have anyone with high Wilderness Lore skill, but you do have someone with high diplomacy, intimidate or bluff, then ask in the village. I think that Venla (the healer) tells you the way through one part of the maze, and Pairi (?? forget her name, the elderwoman's daughter that hangs out near the entrance humming) will tell you the other part. The dryad in the middle of Fellwood tells you the rest. I only succeeded in getting one of them to tell me, and it was after the fact!
