Should I add a 3rd Tank or a 3rd Spellcaster to my party?

Post by Hiredgun »

I've currently got Aasimir Paladin, Dwarf Fighter, Tiefling Rogue, Human Wizard and Human Cleric. Trying to decide wether to fill the last spot with another spellcaster (i.e. druid) or add a 3rd tank (i.e. fighter or barbarian). Please provide advice. Thanks in advance!

well you have a cleric who can be up-front anyways so I don't see a need for another fighter, with some buff spells your cleric can become nearly as good as a pure fighter, if you plan to add a druid then he can take a spot up front as well. Anyways you can pretty much go either way so it's really up to you and the way you like to play. If you're like me and like sending massive amounts of spells at your enemies then go ahead and add a spellcaster, if you're like my brother and just like to bash monsters with a great axe then go ahead with another tank.

Consider adding a bard - with one level of ranger for dual wield. He is kind of a hybrid - has some spells - good dexterity for ranged attacks - and good feat selections - plus you get the bard song - they make excellent backup mages/ranged attack supporters for you tanks.

They also make decent scouts - I use my bard and my rogue as a tag team for scouting - hide, find enemies, sneak attack, then retreat to the tanks and support them with missiles/spells.
