Still waiting for my copy of ID2

My party will include: Aasimar paladin, wild elf fighter, elf cleric, tiefling rogue and drow mage. Now I´m thinking about my main character.I have taught about a fighter/druid but it started to taste like wood (hee hee

) so I started to think about a fighter/sorceror. She would use a bow and a staff. Would this be a bad choise? She would be human (all those skill benefits).

How about a wild elf fighter/sorcerer? Wild elves preferred class is sorcerer. I play a straight wild elf sorcerer as my main character - she is chaotic neutral and I play her as a selfish, haughty taskmistress with a soft spot for "innocents".
Because wild elf preferred class is sorcerer you could take only a few levels of fighter - just enough to make her OK with a bow - and put all the rest of the levels into sorcerer.
I am not a big fan of multiple wizards/sorcerers in my parties so I use a bard instead of the extra mage. Gives me some extra spells and another range attack specialist.

IMO i belive that sorcerers shouldn't be dualclassed. But a sorcer er paladin sounds really nice...yes i am for powergaming...
my party will, must, have an sorcerer i tried one first at BG2 and was stucked...always a sorcerer i say! i am thinking on a drow, if not dualclassed and aasimar if dualclassed to paladin (paladin2/sorcerer x)

You might consider giving a sorc a single level as a ranger, so they could dual wield effectively, but it's not important.

dual-wielding sorcerors??? c'mon Mianna said that she want a fighter/sorceror who uses bow and staff, personally I think you don't need to sacrifice fighter lvls for sorceror lvls, but then that's just me. Give your sorceror plenty of dexterity and she'll be allright. I mean I fail to see a point in giving your sorceror fighter abilities. From what I've seen in this game a fighter/sorceror would not be able to stand up to a one-on-one with most enemies, you'll still need to protect that character with your main tanks if she gets attacked, so you might as well stick to pure sorceror and get a few extra spells, those are always usefull. This is just my opinion feel free to critisize it any way you want.

@Ares, please reread my post.

I didn't recommend anything. I offered a possibility for Mianna to consider, since it's always good to know what your options are. It's neither better nor worse any other choices.

Expertise: up to -5 on attack adds up to +5 to AC. A lightly armored wizard or sorc with the Ghost Armor spell up and full Expertise is really daunting. It's even funnier when enemies are trying to hit him, and he's casting spells like Sunfire.

Mages in IWD2 can most definitely wade into combat. Sheesh, my level 17 mage has 150 hp and a 24 AC. If I wanted to develop him differently, I could have given him three ranks of armored arcana and put him in good magical studded leather and upped the AC a bit more, too.
Of course, their BAB isn't so good, but put some defensive spells on them and you really don't have to worry about them getting knocked over easily.

2 levels of fighter for a good skill in the bow (staff hardly matters,it´s just a cosmetical and roleplaying spice

). I´m playing solo as a sorceror in BG 2 and it´s so COOL!It´s as if I´m playing BG2 for the first time! And my main char always has high dexterity. But waht race to use...from a roleplaying view I´m thinking about human or half-elf (both fit to me

).But which one has better adventages? I took half-elf in BG2 for the sleep and charm recistances (and for a more good looking avatar). But human in ID2 has stunning skill adventages...but a silly avatar (female humen are waaayyy too big looking in my opinion).

If you're soloing, I'd suggest human rather than half-elf, simply because that extra feat can be ever so important.

@ Mianna. I agree with your thought on the human female avatar to a point. I always thought the female fighter avatar looked dumb but the mage avatar looked fine. And since your avatar is determined by your highest class level in IWD 2, not defaulting to fighter they definitely look a lot better. This has to be one of my favorite parts of the game since I usually played an elven fighter/thief in all the other IWD/BG games and used an editor to change my avatar to that of the rogue, now I play ranger/rogue and get to keep my rogue avatar most of the time.

Soloing in ID2...sounds incredibly interesting!I have taught about this but ID2 is hack&slash and so I taught that soloing would be WAAYY too difficult...but after soloing BG2 as a SORCERER I´m starting to like this idea.It made ID dull to play with six "main characters".I´m always interested in the develop of my alter-ego and the others just turn out how it happens...of course I will lose much if I decide to solo but it will make the game extremely interesting...
So should I solo in ID2?If I make a fighter 2-3/sorcerer xx and use a bow(good skill in the bow!!!!) and a staff will I manage? And when I solo I get MUCH more exp. right? So what level will my char be in the end of the game if I solo?

I dont think you will get anymore experience for every kill but you wont be splitting it 6 ways.

That´s what I meant. In BG2 you get a nice amount of experience when you don´t have to share.

If I remember right I read somewhere that fighters gain weapon specialication (spelling

) at 4th level...so I should play as a fighter to 4th level? And should I mix a 3rd class to my solo fighter 4/sorceress xx character? A cleric comes to mind...by the way: How is it possible that my solo lvl 22 sorceress in BG2 is totally OWERPOWERED?!? She only needs to cast Mordaiken´s Sword or Planetar and that´s it! Firkgraak got smashed like a teeny tiny bug!

The problem is you get XP if you
survive... but soloing in IWD2 is, for me, a crazyness...
Monsters are too strong... they will pulverize you in a nanosecond...
I can't imagine your fighter/sorcerer while he is fighting with a goblin rider... impaled in thirty-two seconds...
However... latins used to say: "de gustibus non disputandum est" (preferences are not to be discussed).

Try it with a 20th level monk, then it's easy
