Choosing Weapons & Wizard Slayers

I have two questions for anyone who can help. (1) Which sword proficiency is best in BGII, bastard, long, scimitar, or katana? Any explanation would be helpful, as well as advice on dividing up the 6 proficiency points you start with. (2) What exactly can a Wizard Slayer "not" use. The manual says they can only use magical weapons and armor, but does armor include helms, cloaks, bracers, boots, rings, ect.? Thanks for any help.

armor includes only the armor spot like where u put plate armor leather armor and such doesnt include helms rings ect anyway as for best i dunno why but i find katanas extremly cool u could always follow drizzt and steal his scimitars being a scimitar fellow as for bastard sword i never used the things i dunno how dmg works but long sword is kinda nice to but if i were u i would go toward 1 weapon and stay with it u become like a super korgan in what ever field u go

wizard slayers can use helmets and boots, but not necklace, cloak, bracers, or rings. they can use heal potions but not much else.
i personally believe long swords are the best swords in the game, you can get the answerer +4, angurvadal+5, blackrazor, etc.
but keep axes in mind as well as two handed swords

the proficiency to geeeeet in tob are two handed and halberd.
Ravager +6 is by far the finest weapon I've seen for my style of play...
pure offesive firepower, waste the enemy before he can hurt you. Vorpal weapon plus greater whirlwind is evil incarnate. Until I get it I'm making do with silver sword and wave halberd. I suspect the wave will do more damage than any other weapon against fier based critters, and there is a lot in this game. Later Ill add gram, and because saverok is a pushover for mind control, psion blade.
Yes, there are truely superb swords in the long sword catagory, but I embrace the philosophy of the kensai, move lightly nd quickly, and obliterate the enemy before it can hurt you.
Exept for certain bosses, who are immune,
vorpal weapons have 10%chance of insta kill, and a greater whirlwind has 10 attacks per round. how hard is that to figure out? use boots of speed to get close, activate whirlwind, and attack. Instantly kill the critter and you colect the head.
No for the immune super bosses, I plan to use gram or ravager still, because of extra poison attacks. unless they're immune, in which case I might try massive magical overkill.
Axe of the unyeilding looks great too, with that really nice regen. however, unless someone tells me differently, My healing fires trick also has the benefit of disrupting most mage attacks. By raising fire resistance over 100%, I can cast incindeary cloud at the major boss, then have saverok charge in there where the fire will actually heal him.
please tell me demogorgon and melissan are fire vulnerable!!!

There is no *best* profiency in BG2. Especially since ToB, all weapon classes include excellent weapons. Give some more information about the Wizardslayer you want to play. An sword dancing elf, perhaps? Could dual wield long swords and/or use a long bow. Or a dwarf with a heavy crossbow, switching to a hammer for melee? Or a human later dualed to a stealthy thief, using short sword and short bow. Also, do you want to roleplay or powerplay? When you've decided on this, I'll be happy to make a few suggestions.

True. Find a formula and enjoy it. I have a special fondness for the two handed sword, after seeing charleton heston use it on the movie El-Cid, and I think of it as the idea weapon for a monster killing adventurer. If you got she sheer muscle, or a str enhancer, who wouldn't demand an enchanted giant sword if you're about to face a dragon?
I am enjying the vorpal effect, and right now, after I summoned all the gear I found in BG in a new tob game, savarok has
soul reaver
lilacor
silver sword
the wave
all in his inventory. add in a crossbow, and all his lots are overfilled. but each and every weapon has its virtue, and the player learns to taylor the style of attack based on it. My preference is to rush savarok tword the mass of the enemy, after my skeleton warrior infantry takes the opening shock, and use greater whirlwind to try to get a cheap vorpal kill at the most dangerous of the enemy.
question, are belolders immune to vorpal weapons? they have no necks, after all...
soul reaver is for ganging up on a single powerful magic resistant enemy. Whack with a few times, and its ability to damage you is severly compramised.
your weapons slection will determine your tactics.
Now for axe users, the axe of the unyealding is sweet, especially its regen capability.
So this would allow use of a shield, with commisurat increase in defense. use the harmonium shield, you've got an un charmable juggernault.
I persoanlly run a magic and cleric heavy party, so savarok, as only fighter, gets massive spelled protection whenever I feel the need to send in a blunt instrument. But for a magic and cleric lean party, the axe and korgan is a better choice.
for those people who ;ole keldorn or like paladins, the purifieer is obviously a slightly defense oriented versio of holy avenger. The thing that to me made avenger so cool was the really obscene magic resistance. Well this allows you to get a pakadin with a sword, and add a shield, possibly darksteel, for elemental resistance, or shield of the order, to improve saving throws.
I'm just glad clerics were not left out, since there is a wicket scimatar for jaheira and storm star, got to be the best weapon for fighting pitched battles with its chance for chain lightning.
I am also looking foward to the staff of the ram for my pC
a uber sorc with enough firepower to level saradush.
hey, since I go blamed for it, I might as well revel in it, no?

Just a thought. Since the wizardslayers cant use girdles, wouldnt crom fayer in your offhand be a great idea? much better THAC0. other hand can be many things, as long as it is a +5 weapon

my wizard slayer ended up dualing crom and axe of unyielding. 5 stars in each and 3 in dual wield. and since i played an orc, his strength was already at 19 for the beginning of the game.
their main weakness that i could find came from a lack of regeneration...no ring of gaxx or ring of regeneration. only the pearly white ioun stone in the temple ruins, everythign else (liek the axe of unyielding) comes much later in the game

I like axes because it is a really good melee weapon as well as a good missile weapon you can use while wearing a shield.

With respect to regeneration, Peridan, the Dragonslayer long sword, will give you regeneration, albeit rather slowly.

i always use 2 weapons. Im always ranger or fighter and i use katanas all the time, katana + katana or katana + long sword. My fave is Celestial Fury + Daystar (daystar if i wanna whoop some undead asses).

If you want dual wielding, go for long swords. There are many of these that are both good (special abilities, resistances etc) and can be obtained early on in SoA (I often have five or six in my backpack when leaving for Asylum). It's a long way to go to ToB and when you get there most of the game already over.

good news, ther is a good ioun stone somewher in the gameheld by sendai in his enclave that regens at half the speed of the ring of gaxx. Its called the wong fei stone. and since it counts as a helm you can use it.
also, doesn't the axe upgraded rengen you?

Small bow get tuigan bow early, and your enemys are miscasting very soon.
