Evil new dual classing cheese...fun with assassin mage

you know i understand kits quite well, here is something really really sick....

dual classing with lowered penalty...

now the whole argument between dual classing and multi is multi levels up slower, but dual has that time until the second class kicks in you are vulnerable and low level, thus easier to kill....

so people recommend you dual early, thus minimizing the "lag time", so you are less exposed until the second class catches up....

but certain kit duals, you NEVER lose some of the special perks....

like the assassin kit, once you reach 9x backstab, thats the max, the engine counts 2 of the multiplier as an affect, the rest is kit definition....

so if you dual to mage, when you reach 9x backstab, you immediately have, even though your assassin abilites are disabled, still have x3 backstab!!!!

big deal you say?

well, if you are high up in assassin class, you get some spike traps, some assassinates, and USE ANY ITEM, and then dual, and now you are a mage, but i think you also keep a ac and thaco bonus, and with use any item, you are NOT restricted to mage weapons, and you still have assassinate with x3 backstab while you dual wield katanas, and believe me this is one evil ability....

you are a mage, so soon you have improved haste and mislead, and you spin into attack, and using assassinate, each hit in dual wielding swords for one round is x3 backstab, you can kill off the worst of the group of enemy.... or use mislead for stealthy approach for special situaltions....backstab over and over...

now this is impossible with cleric dual to mage, or fighter dual to mage, until the second class catches up with first, you cannot use the weapons of the first class....

but with use any item, and that hidden x3 backstab, and a ac bonus, (i have not tried this yet,) you should be at least 3/4 as effective assassin in your mage class, until you catch up....

and lets not even think about poisoned energy blades, and melf....i mean a mage is a pretty powerful class in its own right, so add in the 3/4 power of a high level assassin, and you have just gotten

legally,

the best of dual and multi, the ability to add a good kit, but much less of the vulnerable period when your second class has not caught up with the first class...

:D :D :D

Heh...

First of all, an assassin only reaches 7x backstab, and at level 21.

Second, dual-classing works so that you can't use any abilities from your previous class while it's inactive; that includes UAI. Furthermore, if you dual to a mage, your Thac0 resets to a mage's Thac0 until your second class catches up.

Third, you said you never even tried it. So much for credibility.

And lastly, an assassin is not made to dual to mage, at all; it would defeat the very purpose of the assassin kit. If you want a thief/mage of your own other than Imoen or Jan, take the swashbuckler kit. The only class an assassin should dual to is fighter (and a fine dual class the assassin-13/fighter is.)

I believe User customized the backstab multiplier...at one point it was going to be X12 (eek :) )

Which is a matter of opinion. The purpose of the assassin kit is slaying enemies using stealth and poison which surely ties in with a bunch a mage spells, no? Backstab frenzy while under mislead? Howabout mislead and time stop? Poisoned Melf's minute Meteors? Etc.

This is very awe, indeed, User!
BUT, and there is always a butt, if you have to do it ´ze legal way ´zere is but a single problem: When you get UAI you should be about lvl.20, yes? Which means, zat, when you dual (which will havff to be in ´ze ToB hexspansion) you will get, let´s just say, pretty muff-slaughtered as a lvl.1 mage!
[russian accent=off]

Ahh... dat, I mean, THAT felt better! Of course, this is no problem for us SK-hackers...Image

aaahhh...the point is this specific dual, has much less of a penalty than most other duals...

uai allows you to use good swords and such while you are that level 1 mage, and you still keep the assassin kit x3 backstab, just hidden away, so use assassinate in desperate situations, and use mislead scrolls for cheese...

soon you will have mislead spell, and imp haste, so you have a pool of killer tricks until you catch up to assassin level...

btw, you lose poison until you catch up, as well as any snares, but you keep spike traps and assassinate, and probably scribe scrolls, the most important high level ability, tied for brew potions.... :p

What self respecting level 30 demi-god could do without these uber-abilities. Infact, I won't use 'em -- they unbalance the game ;)
