Named Sword

I bought a sword in the Gallaway Trade Depot. Sword of Mac de Knife is the name of the sword. The discription says that I have no idea about how the sword has my name on it but it is familiar to me. It only gives out 1 pt of cold damage. I am in Chapter 2 now and am just carrying the sword with me. Does this sword upgrade itself or am I going to be able to upgrade this sword to something useable later on. BTW my Mac de Knife is the name of my Leader who is a NE Rogue and has Large Sword as a skill.

I think it is just a game gimmick. I think baldur's gate 2 did the same thing.

No he has a 12 Charisma. Funny thing is sometimes the sword changes the name to my other characters. Do not have any idea why it does that either.

That happened to me also and I couldn't find an explanation for it. I wouldn't be too concerned with it. Pretty soon, you'll sell it.

BUT WHEN YOU PLAY HEART OF FURY
..
You'll buy it back, believe me ! :)

Golden Heart of Daisy (that's my cleric's name):
Longsword +5
(Attack bonus, Damage, Enchantment each +5)

Wearer has +2 Strength
Wearer has +2 Dexterity
Wearer is under constant HASTE effect...
Wearer is constantly under FREEDOM of MOVEMENT effect..
That's all.
Oh wait, I forgot: Wearer's hitpoint maximum is constantly increased by +25.. :) :) :) :)

Anybody noticed this similarity: (hint hint)
"Heart of fury"
"Heart of <insert player name here>"

Chris

I think the sword is just named after whichever character is the first one to talk to the lady storekeeper at the Galloway trading post.
I saved beforehand, and tried it, reloaded and tried again at it's the same sword each time, just named after whichever character first spoke.
I haven't finished the game, but I suspect it's just a cute thing they put in.

@Chris Boney,

nice connection. I wonder if the blade worked that in IWD as well. There was a heart of <charname> in IWD 1 also but I don't think I had it anymore when I went to HoF mode.

For what it's worth, I laughed out loud when I first realized the sword changes name according to the owner. I immediately visualized some clever merchant arranging with a wizard to make a weapon just like that, so as to sell it for a lot more than it's worth. "Somebody sees that the sword is named for them," he probably said. "They'll think wow, I'm a legend, and pour out their life savings for it." They both chuckle. "Shall I throw in a modest attack enchantment?" asks the wizard. "Sure--why not. Might as well give them some small value for the gold in my pocket."

The name of the sword has something to do with the party leader. In my game it switches names but only to that of my paladin and my bard. These are the only two that I use as leaders. The namechange doesn't occur immediatly after changing leaders. Maybe after a day or after reloading ?

I must say I was dissapointed as well when nothing special happens with the sword.
