Doesn't anyone like the Barbarian?

I find this character unbelievably strong. Loads of hps and great resistances. Rage is just as good as Berserker rage due to the fact that you don't get winded afterwards. He must have the greatest defense of all characters and that means less reloads. I don't think that a Barbarian has ever died in my game.
Just curious cause there is not alot of talk about this guy.

When I first looked at the Barbie, I didn't like the fact that you couldn't wear plate armor or grand master in a weapon!! But then I tried him out noticed that he made the most kills in the party and died only a few times!!

my view is if a fighter kit can't get grand mastery in a wep, its not really afighter, sorry, and I don't like the barbarian as much since it does not have the most important immunity to imprison and maze...
sorry, guys, I just don't like the kit. heck, wittle korgy will get axe of unyeilding, so hit points are moot. according to tests, someone did, I think xyx or sabre, it has fastest regen in game including ring of gaxx!!!
as long as you keep above the power word stun and kill limit, around 80 and 60, you need regen more than anything else. besides, you can always use up belt of regen before a really tough fight, anyway.
and I always use summons for my primary meelee group anyway.
korgan beats out minsc, closest to pc barbarian in the rage dept. in every way.

Craig: Say what?!?! "any one Seen how is best?"???????????
Anyway, I think Barbarians are alright... but kinda boring, don't u think? that's IMO. But yeah.. Korgan rocks.. hehe..
I think in a party where I have:
Korgan
Viccy
Edwin
Me (Swashbuckler)
Haer Dalis
Cernd
Korgy did like.. 40-45% of the kills!!! haha.. while me (Swash) did about 20-25% and the rest did 5-10%!!! haha So yeah.. barbs DO kill the most.

Axe of unyielding can be used by any fighter not just Korgan so that says nothing about class. Barbarians get immunity to maze but unfortunately not Imprisonment.
But you gotta love the resistance to physical damage.

Has any one pitted a Barb Vs a Berzerker?

I believe Spork did some extensive testing on regeneration, and found that nothing stacked and the Axe of the Unyielding was best.

Korgan is a berserker, not a barbarian. There are no Barbarian NPCs in the game. I think the barbarian is great as far as it goes, you know, I don't care about the proficiencies that much, the hit dice are great, the rage is better (no winded period) and worse (no immunity to imprison) than the berserkers, the no plate mail is no big deal since there are so many good non-plate mail armors in the game. the fast movement is sweet.
The problem is that you can't multiclass a barbarian, like you can a fighter, and you can't dual them, like you can a berserker or Kensai. That's why people don't like them I think. I have mostly played BGII with fighters dualled to mage and the fighter/thief multiclass. I can't get those options with a barbarian, which is too bad because a barbarian/thief would be killer, and it makes a lot of sense as a multiclass or dual.

I like the barbarian. Very hardy.
I chose a barbarian for my "speed" game because of the high hit points and resistances. The armor restriction wasn't too painful, and the weapon expertise wasn't really that much of a problem either. Once you get the girdle of giant strength, a +3 weapon, specialization, etc, you really don't miss that extra bonus very often. Granted, the barbarian is not the penultimate melee master, but so what? He can soak up the hits and last longer in battle.
Besides, how much fun is it to play a halfling barbarian named Skurby Stumpthumper?!?!

Barbarian/mage cannot cast spells from scrolls for some reason. They can however learn them.
Is there any point in getting more than two slots in any weapon? Is it plus one to damage and thac0 with five compared to two?
I know you can't dual him but if you want to play as a straight fighter then barbarian is the way to go, or berserker.

I have played in BG 1 as a straight fighter, but I think in BG 2 if I was doing a fighter-type not to dual I would be tempted by Paladin and kits or Ranger and kits, so there are some spells and different abilities - a paladin for instance doesn't have rage, but the saving throws are so good they save against everything, effectively giving them immunity all the time. I have used Keldorn in a party, and he was very effective, making me just imagine how effective MY inquisitor would be with better stats.

Imprisonment, Maze and Power Word Stun are quite the annoyance, especially when soloing. No save. Think "Paladin vs Kangaxx"...

Keldorn took Kangaxx down for me no problem - of course he had a Prot. from Magic scroll on him...

I think you definitely have a point, Xyx, but first of all I don't solo the game (or havn't yet anyway) so I'm talking about parties mostly, in a party Maze is annoying but actually no big deal. Imprison isn't protected against by Barbarian (the topic of the thread) rage, and stun actually isn't either unless you patch (right? I'm not sure but that's what I thought). As far as Kangaxx and any other demi liches you might run into, you do have those scrolls of Protection (Prot. from Undead, too). I think that if I were to solo, I would still pick a paladin over a barbarian because of the versatility and Carsomyr. If we're talking Berserker vs Paladin, then I would take the Berserker and then dual to mage or thief or cleric or druid or whatever. It's true that Berserker rage is probably the single best ability a solo character could have.
