I'm in Kalduhar right now in non-Heart of Fury mode and up until this point, the available armor has just totally sucked. No +3 or 4 armors whatsoever and the only +2's seem to be leather, studded, and chain. Somebody please tell me theres better armor to come?

They simply forgot to include several armour. No kidding.
There will be a patch out (hopefully) soon.

If you collect the rhino beetle shells and have enough gold, you can have them made into pretty decent (and lightweight) plate armor.

I know all about them, and their only equivilent to +1 at best, so those fall into my sucky category. I mean theres no unique armor at all, its all just +1 or +2 and thats it. I mean common, what a jip, I wanna see some Armor of the Heart, or Gorgon Plate, or Mail of the Dead. They got a lot of interesting weapons, but the armor is horribly lacking. Don't get me wrong, I love IWDII with a passion, but I'm confounded as to why they've ommitted cool armor.

Another thing to consider is that under the D&D3 ruleset, the maximum DEX bonus sometimes makes "better" armour undesirable when compared to lighter armour.
For instance, if your character has a high DEX bonus, running around in studded leather +4 (with a max DEX bonus of +6) will result in a better armour class than chainmail +2 that caps your DEX bonus at +2.

Again, theres no "cool" armor. Surly there should be magical armor that could raise that maximum dex bonus for the heavier armors, but theres nothing interteresting at all, its all plain and simple + armors and its kinda boring like that.

i hate to interrupt your rant, but the designers made a mistake! the better armours were omitted by accident. hopefully soon there will be a patch to restore the better armours.

Don't worry I haven't forgotten that fact, but I'm not ranting, I don't rant, I'm simply expressing my opinion just to create an extended topic so I can get more posts going.

ok, i just fail to see the point, i guess.
of course there should be good heavy armour in the game, after all this is not athas.
i've got two guys running about in the beetle full plate, which is nice bc it's so light, but they tend to get pounded in combat. it seems counter intuitive that (edit oops, 2nd edition thinking) the higher ac's are from the guys w/ the lighter armour.

BJ666 (did you think about abbreviations?

) and DOCTORB (cool epsiode BTW), if you want to spam, do it in SYM. That way you might, if you try hard enough, have a post count like mine.

You know that part in IWD2 where . . . I wasn't that far off topic, I want to get more posts going, but I want them to be on-topic posts related to IWD2 (sorry Gruntboy if you ever read this, this will be my last spam now that I know what it is, but u have to admit: at least I tryed to make this non-spam) . . . that part was really cool.

Good to know
Good to know, I'll stop playing tonight.
I just started chapter 2 and still have time to take the game back. No sense in buying a game that is not completed. I have enough to do with work etc, I don't need a beta testing job.

In the words of some of the worst geeks online, "????" What beta-testing? IWD2 is about as bug-free as any game I've played, and I've been playing (and frequently reviewing 'em) since 1986. That's no guarantee of knowledge, but still--I can really tell you about some of the only barely mitigated disasters, like the first release of Microprose's excellent Darklands and Master of Magic, or the completely unsavable disasters, like Ultima IX. IWD2 isnt' a test job for anyone.
In any case, it sounds like you're more annoyed at a deliberate dev choice; but I'll repeat what DOC wrote:
" Again, theres no "cool" armor. Surly there should be magical armor that could raise that maximum dex bonus for the heavier armors, but theres nothing interteresting at all, its all plain and simple + armors and its kinda boring like that."
The important thing to realize is that armor becomes better as you raise your dexterity, which your characters can do repeatedly during the game as they make specific levels. I'm frankly glad BIS didn't fall for the endless series of high-end armors and weapons that made BG2's ToB more of a "my special effects are bigger than your special effects!" game. Just my POV, and I've played through the entire game. Enjoyed it a great deal.

I wouldn't give up on the game like that. As I've said before, this lack of armor is only a rumor as far as I'm concerned, I've seen no proof. If you know otherwise, don't mind me, but I'd give the game a chance. Just because there isn't good armor, doesn't mean the game is bad; if anything the game lasts longer and is more of a challenge with the low AC's. When I first started this thread I was annoyed, but as I've played the game more, I realize that it's better this way. The reality of the times is that most games are released unfinished and rely on patches to finish them. If anything, Icewind Dale 2 is one of the most complete games I've played in a while.

I may have come across a bit different than I wished to. What I mean was....
I usually dont play games over and over once I've finished them. It would be disappointing to see a patch that puts in the "good" armor, ergo, they left the "good" armor out accidently.
It would make me want to play it again and I wouldn't have as good a time doing it over....I would just rather stop playing the game, possibly take it back (so I could buy the collectors edition later, I didn't know there was one, so I don't get those vendors either) and if/when there is a patch, start the game over, with at least 4 chapters of unseen stuff.
I do agree....it really isn't beta testing, I was a bit harse. I also have been playing games forever. I loved that game Darklands, but it was so full of bugs (desktop crash bugs) that made it unplayable.
