Hiya, I am looking for Rels Tenim in the Caverns of Shallit. Have arrived at the caverns but no sign of Rels except a note he left telling someone they had to cover sentry duty or something! Does anyone know where this person is? Would appreciate any help 'cause I'm tearing my hair out here!

Rels is there
SPOILER:
I assume you've gone to the end of the tunnel and confronted the vampires in the tomb?
If not, don't worry, you don't have to. I can't remember the exact location but look up. There's a ledge you will have to levitate to.
I've found that in most areas (dungeon, tomb, or other) when you find levitate potions laying around, there's a good chance you can use it within the same location you found it.

SSRat,
Many thanks for your help. I looked up and found the ledge as you said and levitated up. Have now killed first guard but the others have so far killed me but I shall do it! Good tip about the levitating potions.
It's a lovely game isn't it?!!

Yeah. It's got the most amazing graphics I've seen.
Since it sounds like you are starting out, I think a good place to start is the Imperial Cult. Good beginners loot.

You're right - I'm fairly new to the game. I had it as soon as it came out but then started playing Neverwinter Nights online with my daughter. I will try the Imperial cult. I
love collecting goodies! Shame there's no horse and cart though. They were very handy in the last game and I still remember the clip clop of the horse as we went along!!

Where are you on the game? Perhaps you have finished - if that is possible?!

Well if you want to gain experience before items, Id suggest my tripod theory....meaning, work with the fighters guild for a couple tasks, then do a couple tasks for either the mages guild or thieves guild, depending on what type of character you have, and then work with the house you want to belong to at the same time. I have done it this way, starting with a new character, twice. I dont do the other guilds until later. And I have joined every guild with one character (obviously not every house with that character). But thats just to get your feet off the ground. You can jump right in with the Cult, but the early quests dont really help with experience that much. Just my POV. All the guilds are good in their own way.

Simple though
Not a whole lot of experience, true. What I like about the cult quests is the startup money and the startup items. A few of those items could really help a new character fulfill some of the other quests for the Fighters, Mages, and Thieves guild in Balmora.
I personally am on my first run through the game and the cult is the last group of quests for me. Most of the rewards and experience are of no value this late in the game but look very useful for someone starting out who may need 5 points added to a skill or attribute, or the couple hundred gold here and there for very little effort.
I took your tripod approach myself with the three guilds in Balmora, only I saved joining a house until I was master. My idea is join all the houses but i don't really want to start at the very beginning every time.
Anyway, all advice is good, but in the end you'll find the method that suits your style of play. This is my third character as the first two didn't suit me so I restarted early in the game.

I have joined the Fighters Guild (probably my main guild) and the Mages Guild as my second. I have just gone to Sadrith Mora for FG quests. I do seem to be travelling up and down the map quite a bit at the moment. I got some good stuff to sell doing the Shallit Caverns which lead to lenthy trips to and fro to collect and then sell goods. My carrying weight is only 500 (realistic I know but inconvenient to an acquisitive nature like mine!). Also, no-one except the trusty mudcrab seems to have much money. Currently I have a Daedric Sword worth 48,000 but don't know anyone with enough money to buy it (not even the mudcrab). When I next get back to Balmora (I consider this a sort of base) I shall try to find an empty house to take over and store stuff there (hopefully) until I can find a way to sell it. As well as the horse and cart, I long for some sort of portal system. I have no objection to walking the first time but a portal for all subsequent visits would be luxury indeed! I certainly intend to get absolutely every last ounce (or should that now be 'gram'?) out of this game and hope to do it by the time the next game appears (there will
be a next game won't there?).

Ah...yes...Thats the way to think. And youll have a grand time doing it too. Now Im just anxiously waiting for the arrival of the expansion, so I can study that game, enjoy it, and help my friends on the forum while doing so.
@SSRat Yes, thats true. I also liked how the cult started easy and progressively got harder, and you could tell-it started REAL easy and got pretty hard by the end. But as you say, it all depends on the person and their style. I was just saying the way I went about it.

And by the end, you should have done almost all or all the guilds anyway, so by the end, it doesnt matter where you start, as long as you get there.

I just read about the expansion this morning in my games mag - great news! I don't expect to be ready for it gamewise just yet but it will fuel my anticipation nicely!!

One really good thing about the expansion is the upgrade of the journal so that quests can be sorted. The journal was my only other gripe about this wonderful game as I ended up writting out quest titles and page numbers of the journal. Back to the 'good old days' of pen and paper - ha ha!
Tybaltus, I feel very sorry for you having finished but appreciate you sharing your expertise with us lesser mortals! Have you thought of playing with a different emphasis? My primary character is a fighter as I find this generally easier to manage but feel that I would like to explore being a mage a bit more too. Spells are very pretty!!

Oh Whow - I'm very impressed! Do you play for many hours a day? Will you start again from scratch when the expansion comes? Now that
is value for money! Also, do you make notes as you go along so that you can give advice or do you just remember it all? I have the help book which is full of excellent information - but oh for an exhaustive index! By the way, I'm not a nosey type as you can see - just call me interested (well - not literally!).

Well since I just graduated from high school, I was just starting my vacation. All my friends got jobs and I didnt. This gave me lots of free time, so I played for a good 5-8 hours per day. Addicting! And I did this for about 2 or 3 months....all time during that period has blended together.
Will I start from scratch when the expansion comes out? No. I havent deleted any of my characters, so I will just continue their paths into the expansion. But that doesnt mean I will never start from scratch again, I might add a 4th character to the group.
Do I take notes? Yeah, a little bit, but most of the info I throw at the forum is based on my memory. My notes are mostly chicken scratch anyway. Lots of mumbo-jumbo that only made sence for a little while.
I dont use help books. Usually I try to figure it out as I go along. I find it more fun that way. If I really draw a blank or hit a dead end, I turn to the forum, because there are lots of helpful people here.
Nosey? Hardly. Im surprised anyone cares about my gaming history. Its kind of flattering, actually.

Help books are, I think, a mixed blessing unless you have good self control. It would be very easy to just follow exactly what the book said which would take a lot of the pleasure of the gaming experience away. However, I always buy a help book although this obviously bumps up the cost of the game considerably. The reason I do this is because in my early days of RPGs, forums were not available (to my knowledge). In the past, I have had to write to a magazine and hope that they will answer my query about a particularly fiendish puzzle without completing which, I cannot move on in the game. Fortunately, puzzles seem more logical now and there's always the trusty forum! I still buy the books though as an automatic bit of reassurance!
My great love is the open type of game such as Morrowind. I like to be able to do what I like when I like and not come up against doors that can't be opened until I have completed x, y and z or got to level 25 as a mage. How aggravating is that? It is also very annoying to be compelled to play a male character when you are female! Even early 'rpgs' for the Electron allowed you to choose your sex and name - anyone remember 'Citadel'? - no, I thought you were all too young! Lets have many, many more games like Morrowind!!
