Defeating Irenicus (spoiler)

I can't beat him in the Tree of life!  The AI lets him cheat by casting way to many spells at once, and he kills Aerie, Jaheira (btw, i've completed the romance, does it matter weather or not she dies?), and Imoen. He mazes Minsc (if not berzerked) or Jaheira(if she survives the horrid wiltings), the only prople not hurt is Keldorn and the summoned Deva by Aerie. My PC sorc uses a spell trigger first (2 breaches and 1 great malison) and then casts time stop, hopefully before Irenicus does. Then he casts Improved Alcrity, 4 horrid wiltings, 2 breaches, and 2 or 3 finger of deaths before time stop expires. Then Irenicus kills my pc with a horrid wilting or a spell (not sure what, kills everytime instantly). I was even Improved Invisible, or I was at the start. Irenicus casts so many contingincies with prot from magic weapons and Absolute Ammunity (not supossed to be possible), and then he misleads, which Keldorns true sight takes an eternity to dispel.

The best advice - use search for Irenicus Tree of Life. You will get A LOT of techniques.

Personally, as soon as dialogue was over, I ordered all party members to retreat in different directions and then start summoning everything I could. And Insect Plague. He wasted a lot of spells on summons, then I sent my best tank, protected to the maximum by every mean possible, to beat him.

You don't want to take him on in a toe-to-toe combat.

You should run away and give your self lots of room, so that you can penetrate his defences.

I bet the big I by using a timestop, without the Tob expansion so I had the excap remover, then hitting his defenses, then casting abi dalzims at him. I got lucky, the abi dazim interrupted his casting of the raptuer of the father or mdk spell. According to some people, I has either those two soells as his unique ability that systematically kills all party members, one by one, without save. Do not try to quip rapture of the father for your sorc. a party member casting it will crash the game.

Sigh.

I believe you can go at him toe to toe, which it sounds like you're trying to do, if you have some tanks with Greater Whirlwind ability. However, I don't think you need two Breach spells in your Spell Trigger. I would save the second Breach spell for later in the fight, and replace it with Pierce Magic or Lower Resistance. He does have seem to have a lot of Protection from Magical Weapons spells, etc. -- when I fought him, Imoen actually ran out of Breach spells, but Keldorn's Dispel Magic ability worked just as well - fast casting time and he has a lot of them also.

Use only one breach. The reason your spells do not hurt him even when breached is because he has huge magic resistance. Use chain contigency with 3x pierce magic or lower resistance and another mage with breach, pierce magic or better prtoection remover and a no save damage spell like horrid wilting. That should remove his protections. You may also want to have true sight on because he will cast improved invisibilty.

I defeated him, at last. Here's how. I summoned 3 invisible stalkers, one fire elemental, and one deva. I placed them around Irenicus before destroying the last parasite. I paused after the dialogue and had everyone attack Irenicus. My summons did 70 to 80 damage to him before his first protections came up. My sorc cast time stop and all my abi dalzims. Irenicus died. Now I'm about to face him in Hell.

Now, just for fun, try to defeat him at SoA experience cap, as it was in the beginning.

You're mean, Path, but I was thinking the same thing... :) :) :)

Oh yeah, and I think I got through Bodhi's lair, went and cleaned out Suldanessar, dusted the dragon, did Irenicus tree of life, did hell, and then beat him down again, without resting :D :D (not bragging or anything :D )

Heh my favorite strategery is to when it start is to run away, have my main and misic run down one tree, then japhy, and jan another tree and send in some Shock Troop skeleton warriors from my main to let him wase spells on them and keep him bussy and all that crap, they fell fast, then i send in the secondary shock troops, the morkham's swords, they fell eventualy and by then he was nearly out of his spell protections then i stormed him and slaughtered him fast, my strategery with magic heavy mosters like johnny boy is to use summons to keep them bussy and have them wase spells, this is tough when youre soloing but this time i had a party of 4 including me, jan had goten his spike traps but he was the only one that has goten the Speical powers, i did all of the extra quests, other than watcher's keep, that's probably why, next time i got to try that to drive up the levels a bit, with my 3 peoples party on insane :)

oh yeah i had some problems with maze when i soloed, and i had totaly forget that you could summon mosters, i was too bussy danceing and all that crap and trying to keep alive from him, all i can say is **** he got low thac0 he keept on hiting me though -10 ac or lower.
