Bard Spells?

I have a 9th level Bard that can only cast level 1 & 2 level spells, but I do have the level 3 & 4 spells in my spell book. The level 3 & 4 spells show up when you go to cast a spell, but they are grayed out. Anyone know why these would be grayed out and can not be cast? Is it a issue that needs a patch?

What Charisma stat does your bard have?

are you under the effect of an energy drain spell?

I believe the charisma of my Bard is 12. No, I am not under the effect of an energy drain spell or any other spells. I have tried removing all armor and misc and I have also tried resting.

There's your answer. To cast a spell, your bard has to have a Charisma that's (10+ (spell's level)). If your bard's Charisma is 12, they can only cast level 1 and 2 spells.
I'd suggest raising their Charisma whenever the chance arises. Or, if it's still early in the game, you might try replacing them with another, somewhat more vibrant bard.

I respect fable's opinion, but something doesn't make sense. If charisma is only 12, wouldn't the spells simply not be there rather than "greyed out" as bellock claims?

No Doc, Fable is right. When I first made the game I made a sorc with 10 charisma. Lol I still got to choose spells and such but they were all pretty gray.. untill someone told me whats what. Hmmm.... the restart did not seem so meaningless then!

Hey guys, thanks for your help. I have played Baldurs gate I & II and Icewind Dale I, but this is the first time I ever created a Bard. I thought Wisdom was one of the most needed ability score; like the cleric. Live and learn. Thanks again.

ROFL.
Another improvement in messing up a bard.
Most people raise INT for a bard, because they are not familiar with 3edition rules. But giving him high WIS puts one on the top.
Hehe
[no offense]

No need to restart when your character happens to have wrong stats. Just unload all his equipment on the ground, use the character arbitration to delete the character, make a new character, re-equip his stuff and use cheats to raise his XP to what it was. Just a few minutes work.

Just use DaleKeeper to edit his stats.
No equipping and re-equipping and deleting and making new....

Actually, I havenĀ“t used it. I would, if I encountered a bug or something. Planning in most cases works out for me

Thanks BlackJ.
I will try and resist cheating. The stats of my party OK but I made some bad choices on choosing feats. I gave my fighter a feat in "spell focus".
