I took a fighter through BG1 (and DSotSC) and I ended up with a level 11 character. Very nifty, sarevok was quaking in his metal boots.
When I imported this pc in BG2 I got stuck with a lvl 8 char. Isn't your imported char supposed to be the same lvl as he/she was at the end of BG1?
I don't mind starting at lvl 8, I don't want my pc to be too powerful, but I am curious.

Might be limitations set in BG2 on level cheats! Not that I'm calling you a cheat! :)

IIRC at the start of BG2 the game chacks to see how much xp u have. If you have more then 161000 (TOSC) or 89000 (BG1)(dependng on if u have played with TOSC or nor) If u have more then you are brought down to that level. This is to hinder BG2 from being to easy at the start again IIRC

I see. I did have more xp than 161000 due to the extreme amount of xp you can get playing DSotSC. Since DSotSC isn't an official add-on I guess you can call that cheating, EvilEdwin. :o  Thanx for the quick replies.

As @Garazdawi says. I've yet to see a game that allowed you to import a hero at the end of his/her last adventure with all experience, skills, and items intact. Even Wizardry 8, which allows the import of all characters at the conclusion of Wizardry 7, strips experience, some attributes and almost all items. It's just the devs trying to create a level playing field and challenge at the start of the game, and kinda expected. ;)

Well, a level 11 fighter would breeze through most of the early BG2-quests so that's a good move from the designers. Besides, BG1 never intended to give that much xp, I used the xpcap-remover. So I'm a cheater after all...

I've done this once in SoA where I imported my char from end of ToB to play again. :D Anyway, you know what happened.

That's the funny thing, I did what you did once, with a monk IIRC, and he came out as highleveled as I made him! Go figure.
