I have a few questions, relating to 'enriching' the game.

I'm now in the underdark. Somehow I get the feeling that I won't be back to Atthikilia (spelling) for a long time. By the time I finish the Underdark, and get back to the capital, how far into the game would you say I am? I finished most of the quests (Umar, Windspear etc) but I'm yet to do the Druid's grove and obtain a stronghold.

I'm kinda thinking I should have done these before heading to spellhold.

A richer game if I bail out and start again or do I not have a problem?

Plus, my lead character is a paladin and I'm kind of bored with that.

Plus, I only scored two out of there parts to the flail of ages - too late to get the third.

Cripes, I haven't even downlaoded the romance patches.

So, I'm thinking I might start again, play a more interesting lead character (I should be taking advantage of these new kits that we had no access to in BG).

Which leads me to another question - I might go for a female Kensai/Sorcerer multi class.

Is this possible? I read that Kensai cannot cast spells.

Final question - can multi class characters obtain both strongholds that relate to each of their classes, only one or none at all?

Well, paladins aren't my favorite class either.
A kensai/sorceror you can't create without cheating... which is a good thing because she would be far too powerful. There are more than enough interesting kits though. Why not create a pc that's not so good at melee, like a wild mage or a sorceror or a jester? That would give you a whole new gaming experience.
As a rule, multiclass pc's can only have one stronghold but there are ways around that, especially if one of your classes is a fighter.
And the romances are a very nice option in BG2, you gotta have one!

If you're playing as a pladin, getting the stronghold late in the game won't make much difference. It's a rip-off The only thing I would suggest is, if you're gonna play as a paladin again, wait until you do all the stronghold quests before going to Windspear.

I never use the Flail of Ages anyway, so I wouldn't worry about that if it was me. What I wpuld worry about is, if you're bored with the class, then I would definatly start over. By the time you get back to the surface, you are pretty far along into the story. unless you take the time to do all the quests you left unfinished, it won't be that long until you finish the game.

As far as Romances go, if you're gonna DL one, I would recommend Tashia. It's very well done. I can't speak for the others, as Tashia is the only one I tried so far, but I'd say you'll get plenty of suggestions Personally, I would play through without the patches and mods the first time through. The game is great in itself. I alway look at mods as extra perks and incentive to play through again

I don't think you have a problem. The regular romances aren't really all that great (they're not bad, they're just not earth-shattering), and I don't think that anyone should finish every sidequest before heading off for Spellhold. Once you finish the Underdark (which might not take much longer, depending on how far you've gotten), Chapter Six will begin, and you'll head back to Athkatla in pursuit of, uh, the person you're supposed to be pursuing. There's only one thing you need to do in that chapter, and then the critical path will take you straight to Chapter Seven, the last chapter of the game. Despite the urgency of the critical path, I enjoy doing side-quests in Chapter Six, especially if I want Imoen in my party when I do them. (If you want her in your party, why would you do all of the side-quests without her in Chapter Two?)

Here's a list of sidequests. You say you still need to do Umar Hills, Windspear Hills, and Trademeet/Druid Grove. You've done Nalia's Keep already, and you've probably dealt with the slavers in Athkatla already and saved the Circus. You didn't mention the Planar Sphere (I guess you haven't met Valygar yet) , the Astral Prison, or the Unseeing Eye. I haven't mentioned some of the smaller quests (Kangaxx, the Bridge District Murders, and others). If I have a full party of six, I like for my characters to have about 500,000 experience points when they finish Chapter Three. I do some of the major sidequests in Chapter Two, but I don't think it's unreasonable to do most of the major sidequests in Chapter Six.

On the other hand, if you missed the Sahuagin City before you reached the Underdark, then by all means, restart.

I don't think I'd enjoy playing a Paladin as my lead character, but I do enjoy having Keldorn in the party. I can't tell you what you would enjoy playing; you need to decide for yourself. But I think you ought to give a spellcaster a chance. I didn't play a spellcaster as my lead character in my first game of BG2, but I played a dual-class Berserker/Cleric in my second game, and it was fun. My favorite character was a multi-class Ranger/Cleric, which is very popular.

If you want to change classes in the middle of the game, it's possible to edit your character and completely convert him to something else. I've done it before.

If your character is multi-classed, you can't have a kit without cheating. Not that it stops some people. Again, editing is required.

As for the Flail of Ages, I'm not sure why you can't get the third head. If the Roenalls have the place locked up, you can cheat your way in. It IS cheating. As if that stops some people.

As for whether a multi-class character can get more than one stronghold, the answer is, not without cheating. As if that stops some people.

My attitude is, you can always replay the game after you've finished it. You're not going to have a perfect run-through the first time no matter how hard you try, especially if you tend to rush through things because you can't wait. The second time around can be just as much fun, and possibly even more fun since you know what you're doing and you've picked up a lot of skills. You can even do things a lot differently if you want to; for example, you can side with Bodhi in the guild war instead of siding with the Shadow Thieves. It won't feel like a completely different game, but it will give you a new perspective, and that makes it interesting. Same with winning a different stronghold.

To me, it's like acting out a play when I already know the script. I use my own imagination to embellish it and make it more immersive. Like you said, maybe you should try to do more role-playing. I think it's worth it.

oh yeah, von and coot both know me, it never stopped me before...hehehehhehe...

but i think i make bun bun 9 and 10 real soon, since i plan to install wes smarter mages and spell 50.....and maybe ascention as well...this for my run thru with flirt pack .8

smarter mages and spell 50????!!!! yes, i am completely insane, but for once might give the bunny a real workout...

spell 50 lifts the cap on most spells, so a fireball does around 50 DICE damage if the mage casting it is high enough...dont even think about abu dahzim....and wes smarter mages have the ai substancially upgraded....

what i am saying, is even after youve run thu the game a few times, there are lots of ways to still have fun.....

Ahhhh, but have you tried them enhanced with Flirt Pack goodness?

Actually, I've never tried the Flirt Pack MOD, but I'd like to do so the next time I play. Which brings up a point I forgot to mention. I think it's best to play the game unmodified the first time around, and then add all the groovy MODs the second time around. The game was pretty good out of the box, so I think it ought to be played that way at least once. But the second time around, it's nice to add new things to make it more interesting and more challenging, and to give it some wonderful new surprises.

If Danzar wants to know which MODs to install, I think he ought to start a new topic or look at the existing topics devoted to that subject. "Should I restart" and "How should I MOD the game" are really two different questions.
