Xp from Spell Scribing - Cheese or Legit?

Hello once again. I have a roleplaying question, and was looking for opinions. My main char is a swashbuckler, Lvl13, about to damn Mae'var before Renal Bloodscalp. I have Aerie and Minsc in my team at present. I'm contemplating dualling him to Mage, but it's a surprisingly difficult decision. I really like this rogue, to me he's a fighter at heart who just happens to be a thief, (I will probably turn down the Thief Stronghold and take De'Arnise Keep) and I can't quite justify how he suddenly turns around one day and becomes a Magic User. Presently he's still a bit weak in Melee, nothing that a belt of Hill Gaint Strength + CelestialFury + Belm cannot fix..
My question is - what do folks on the forum think of Spell Scribing? Is it Legit or Cheese to gain XP with Scrolls? I'm playing a swash right now BECAUSE I just could not justify being a Kensai, coming out of the Dungeon, grabbing Jan, stealing every Scroll in Amn, and becoming a Lvl12 Wizard overnight. If if were that easy, hey, Jan would be an Archmage by now..and a millionare, not selling Turnips on the street.
I've taken 3 levels (11-13) to build my Swash up to 90 in Pickpocketing, with Gloves+1 potion of Mastery Thievery he can steal most anything, except from Gorch and the Copper Coronet..If HE steals HIS own scrolls to learn and advance, would that be cheese? Also, does he need to keep other party members while scribing? He pickpockets, he takes the risk, he learns the Scroll...should others share Xp from it? When Aerie scribed scrolls,
both Minsc and my char were in the Group, but then Aerie scribed scrolls We (Minsc & MyChar) had obtained. It just seemed legit for all to share in that case..
I don't consider myself a hard core roleplayer by any stretch, but spell scribing makes dualling to Mage very easy, and it just dosen't feel..right. Hence the question, to try and justify conditions in which it can be *relatively* legit. Thanks..(After all this, I might just stick with the Swash..If I ever woke up on a cold hard dungeon floor, I know whom I'd rather be....)
