Sjoring Heard-Heart

I have risen up in the Fighters Guild and my ambition is to become the Guildmaster! I have Sjoring Hard-Heart's quest to get further promotion but am in a quandry about this. It's not that I have any scruples about killing off the entire Thieves Guild (sorry if they're your best friends!). Trouble is, I can't seem to do this and get away with it! I have provoked them into hitting me first without a problem but then everyone else in the Guild joins in the fight and when I hit them, my crime is reported. So far, not so bad. Trouble is, when I have talked to the guards before they can attack me, I don't have the choice of paying my fine and clearing the bounty; they just say that I deserve to die - Goodbye!!

Any ideas? Can I get to be Guildmaster without killing all these fine folk?

One way is not to do this quest. Try instead talk with former guildmaster un Tel'ahrun's Guild and ask what he's thinking about this ("any question" option, IIRC).

Will try that tomorrow Loredweller and let you know how I get on. Ambition is a terrible thing in the wrong hands!! I was quite prepared to kill them all to rise up! You have brought me back to my senses and I will try a more peaceful approach.
Thanks

My standing with the Thieves Guild is good so far. I haven't joined the guild but have practised my speechcraft on them! I am interested to know that I can pursue both the FG and the TG as I wasn't sure that the two were compatible. This is good news because I can do more quests than I thought and I certainly want to do as much as I can.

I joined the Tong
I was able to join the Tong. I had basically become the head of every "guild" with the exception of the thieves guild and Archmaster of the house redoran; so i joined the Tong as well.
I had one iffy writ to carry out, but I am now head of the Tong.

You're quite right and saying nothing new if, as i suppose, you're speaking about Morag Tong. Nobody, AFAIK, has got any luck to join Cammona Tong or the Dark Brotherhod.

The Morag Tong is highly respected and everyone you get a writ for deserves their punishment.
Well, no -- not everyone. Several of the grandmaster writs are fairly inoffensive targets. I can't see killing Baladas Demnevanni in any case, he's just too useful.

Caugh me napping
Errr......well yeah, i seem to have made a small error in my reading comprehension; good thing the SATs are long gone for me.
Anyway, the iffy writ is the Redoran guy in Vivec. I got expelled from the House when i killed him. I was head of the house at the time and was forgiven for my first offense

Baladas is essential to a number of Telvanni quests, and of minor importance to one legion quest. He's also the preferred source (there is another, but it's more of a hassle) for finishing one very significant mages quest, and one of the characters who's equipped to channel you back onto the main quest if you've broken it.
He's also the most scholarly NPC in the game, so a likely source of quests from mods.

It's a grandmaster writ. You can't get it til you're made grandmaster.

Once you're grandmaster, you can get the new grandmaster writs from any Morag Tong quest giver (except Eno Hlalu I think, even if you let him live). There's about a half dozen of them... some of the strongest NPCs in the game are the targets.

Dark Brotherhood
Hiya, yet another query! As you know, I recently got the quest to kill off TG members for Sjoring Hard-Heart (sorry I spelt his name wrong when I started the thread!). Anyway, between getting the quest and sleeping, I installed Tribunal. I did this because I wanted my journal sorting (and what a misery of unfinished quests I found there too!). Anyway, since both these changes, I can't rest anywhere without the Dark Brotherhood attacking me. I have been directed to Mournhold to remedy this and am thinking that I have inadvertently strayed into Tribunal! BUT - is it Tribunal that has put the Dark Brotherhood on my case or is it that I have got the quest from Sjoring Hard-Heart? Whatever, it's a real pain!!! HELP!!!
Happy adventuring,
JanB

It's tribunal. Going to mournhold and speaking to any guard there will stop the attacks. The attacks will also stop once you've been through a certain number of them.... five, I think.

Also checked in with the Morag Tong in Balmora but no Grandmaster writs were offered.
Did you try asking for regular writs? If memory serves, you get the grandmaster ones through the simple 'writs' topic.

This is a known bug - you can become Grandmaster of both Hlaalu and another Great House by having a chat to the Duke after you killed his dear bro. How bereaved he must be

It's been fixed in the latest patch, but I've never seen it be able to happen when you haven't killed Orvas...if you really want to get in Hlaalu, go kill Orvas Dren (why haven't you, anyway?) and then go chat to Vedam Dren, he should say you're Grandmaster, but you can still do all the quests and get advanced in the normal way.

It's patched - or so it's said, at least in 1.2.0772 readme. It may explain why somebody cannot repeat this after a patch.
