Is there anyone out there who is new to BG?

Yes.
Me for one!
Though I have played SoA, which gives you a weird feeling of deja vu (or maybe presque vu)... Dynaheir just made level 5, but we haven't found any level 3 mage spells yet

Evokers are really limited in BGI since most the lv4 spells are enchantment or conjuring, both which evokers are barred from. It's too bad, Dynaheir is a nice gal.

Guys, if you just want to spam in this thread, go to SYM (Speak Your Mind), per the site owner's rules
here. If you want to discuss BG1, this is the place.

@Lord of Gifts (aka Annatar): I am a huge Tolkien fan, and I assume you are as well?
To keep this thread on topic, why don't all of us "newbies" post our characters so the veterans can critique them? Old, yes, but so is the game.
Elven Enchanter, Neutral Good
Str 8
Dex 12
Con 8
Int 17
Wis 9
Cha 18
Anyone?

Why would an enchanter need an 18 Charisma?

No reason in particular, just the way I wanted to roleplay him. I figured he has many flaws in his stats that he can use his persuasive voice and good looks to overcome them.

If the charisma truly mirrored that in BG1...! The only recent CRPG where I've seen that kind of effect was in Planescape: Torment. Charisma really did make a big impact in how some people related to you.
Well, and the Fallout series, too.

I agree wholeheartedly fable
I usually like to roleplay the game in my own way too. For instance with a fighter I would just kill Marl, that guy who picks a fight with you in Beregost. With a priest I might just ignore him, but with my charismatic mage I am able to talk him out of his rage.
Just an example
BTW, I loved both PS:T and the Fallout series
