Two questions, and if you don't want to just give away the solution, a subtle hint would be perfect, 'cause I think I just need a good nudge in the right direction.

(1) Can a fighter/mage wear the sylvan chain without compromising spellcasting?

(2) If so, where can it be found?

O.K since you asked about it.
Acording to versus perfect guide, the Elven Mail +2 Sylvan Mail (chan13) is part of the druid stronghold quest, but Gamebanshee have recived many details on the Druid Stronghold and the armor location is not listed on the Gamebanshee equipment page, I belive that the Armor does not show up in any quest.
Since you want it, I propose this, Cheat it in after the druid grove and manage to get rid of 8000 to 10000 gold pieces (ex. drinks on bars). that is a way to get the armor without "cheating" too much.(the price on the book is 12,705 GP if you want to use it)

Interesting that the armor might be part of the Druid quest...has anyone else noticed that Faldorn seems to be wearing it during the fight or at least an armor that bright green like elven chain...but its not on her when she dies? Or maybe my screen color is just too bright.

To Buck Satan and all:
The "Official Baldur´s Gate II, Shadows of Amn perfect guide" have many things that are *not* in the game, the Sylvan is listed as a reward from the Druids stronghold quest (in fact it states that its on the Druid Grove), the jade figurine is not listed, the Boots of Phasing are reported as part of the loot that we get in the Shade Lord Dungeon and it states that we fight Artemis Entreri on the second visit to Bodhis Lair (we do not).
There are somethings that we cannot be fully sure about.
