Hortator scripting mess

Post by MordorMan »

I am having serious trouble becoming Hortator of House Redoran, the great house I'm a member of. First, I messed up the Caldera Mines quest by freeing the slaves before bringing back the ledger. I had to go back to an old saved game and do de mine thing again in the right order because the main quest was stuck. I was very glad I had not continued my first (test) character, who rescued the caldera slaves at day one!

Now I'm in a similar mess and I don't know what to do. All members of the Redoran Council have agreed to name me Hortator, except Bolvyn Venim. I am supposed to duel him, I gather, but I'm not able to challange him. I varied dispositions between 100 and 0 but this has no effect. I have tried all conversation subjects but none lead to a duel.

I am afraid this had something to do with Miner Arobar, he had no trouble supporting me but the Redoran Noble who is proposing me as Hortator (I forgot his name, I rescued him from assasination and rescued his son, ... Sarethi I think his name is) thinks I haven't got the support from Miner yet. He says he's under the influence of the Telvanni. I went to see this Telvanni wizard who is influencing Miner. He admitted he and Miner had talked but thought nothing of it. He also named me the Telvanni Hortator without too much trouble.

Is this a mess or what? I really love the game but I do think some more attention might have been given to scripting, my main quest seems now totally stuck. Is there a way out of this? Or am I missing something obvious?

Don't worry, this tripped me up too. What is really the matter is that House Telvanni has indeed taken infulence of Arobar. His daughter is being held I think in the Tel Mora Tower. When you talk to her you will have to battle your way out (after a short conversation). After you get arobar's support (real support) then you can talk to the guy whos coordinating all your votes, and he will tell you to go and challange Venim. I'll double check the place where Arobar's daughter is beeing kept hostage

Cheers

Miner Arobar Llethri in his manor in the Ald'ruhn Manor District will initially refuse to talk with you and give you his support. Return to Athyn Sarethi to learn that Llethri might be influenced by the Telvanni and you are to find out how its being done and remove it. Travel to Sadrith Mora and talk with people in the town to learn that the Telvanni councillor Master Neloth is holding Arobar's daughter hostage in Tel Naga in the center of town. Arobar's daughter, Nartise, is held on the lower levels of the tower and is well guarded (the guards will attack you as soon as you free her). Nartise will follow you to the docks in town and will leave on her own from there. Return to Sarethi to complete the quest (you can visit the now uninfluenced Llethri as well for an additional reward).

Okay there is the right answer. Compliments of The UESP Chapter 3 Morrowind

Thank you rnrules! So this is how it is supposed to go? Something is definitely wrong in my case because Miner has already given me his support without me having rescued his daughter. He gave me his support straight away after hearing my story and seeing the moon-and-star ring. If I bring up the subject of choosing a hortator, he tells me over and over again he has already given me his support. But when I go over to Athyn Sarethi, he tells me "So Miner refuses to support you?" or something similar, which baffles me because Miner obviously is already supporting me 100%.

But okay, I will try to rescue his daughter, I hope this will make things right and allows me to dual Bolvyn.

I feel very sad for the people who are playing Morrowind without internet access, it is nearly impossible to continue the game after the main quest has been ****ed up.
