God bless the cloak of reflection

I dont know how but i missed obtaining the cloak of reflection the fisrt time i played. Well, i have it now and it is my new favorite item, because of the gauths and beholders. I absolutely love the fact that my mage with a mediocre AC can nonchalantly walk up to one of the most dreaded D&D creatures, or a group of them, and just stand there, whistling, while all of the rays get reflected back to the gauths and beholders, that in turn promptly procede to die. I mean I remember having such issues with beholders in my first game, and now the fact that i don't even have to move a finger for them to die just warms my heart.

Just wanted to share my contentment...

For the same reasons, you'll absolutely HATE the item in the next run through... ;)

You don't need the cloak for that. There's the Shield of Balduran, available from a merchant, that has the same effect.

Now thats not entirely true. Beholders and Gauths do not make up the entirety of the game, so its not like everything is a breeze.

I played the game 4 times through, and I didnt find that it was any less fun any of the times through. There are still many more foes that you have to encounter that are not affected by the cloak. Though some really difficult fights become a breeze, it doesnt diminish all the others.

No I meant Beholders and Gauths ceases to be a challenge if you get the cloak or shield. There are plenty of other cheesy items, tactics or abilties in this game if one wants to remove the threat every single other monster poses as well. My point is that it's more fun to beat Beholders with tactics rather than with items that will cause them to commit suicide.

...is my favorite boring ;) method yet still in lione with RP-ing.

Armed with the Staff of the Magi, Wand of Cloudkill and Cloak of non-detection, my mage (usually Jan) would fire away at the group and then turn to invisible mode immediately.

Melt, baby, melt! :D

Cloak of relflection.

Cloak gets nerfed somewhere along the line anyone know how to change it back so it works in the original form? Hell, I never get sick of watching gauths and beholders gazing themselves to death.

Simple mind, simple pleasures! :)

There is a fixpack around that returns the cloak to it's original state. Check Baldurdash, which contains one, I think.

You might also want to have a look at The BG Crossroads thread for it.

I'd agree, but then, I've played through the game several times, so leaving items like the Shield behind raises the level of interest.

Or u remove the file: clck26 from your override directory....

This will restore the cloak's original (like in: before installing ToB) abbilities and look

Cloak of Relfection fix.

Thanks for the link Nippy.

It's odd I have that same fix but it does not work the same. Cloak has new improved icon, much like the cloak of reflection but it seems to 'absorb'spells instead of shooting them back.

Anyone know why? Thanks in advance for any input.

Nippy,

The link to the Blades looks very interesting, is that an active Guild? Do not have NWN yet are you playing that regularly now? Does it have the staying power of BG2?

Think Archer posted same time as me, thanks for answering my question! Damn you guys are fast! :) Will try that. Thanks again!

Try installing some of the "improved" monster patches that can be found......... I believe that there's one for beholders, you can't abuse the AI as badly with these  Might help spice up those fights with the oversized eyeballs ;)

Cloak of Reflection & Blades.

Thanks for all the info guys, will simply remove that clk26 file from overide and see if that does the trick. ;-)

Also will check out Blades forums. Have found the forums here at GameBanshee to be the most active regarding BG2, glad I made my way over here. Better late then never!

Already installed all the 'improved' additions that came with acension think that includes mages & monsters and special fights like abi and prince of demons.
