Level up Attribute modifiers

I have increased my misc. skill in order to bump up my attribute modifiers. However, when I level up, the modifiers only work on the ones that increased naturally. The one that I trained to increase don't seem to be helping to increase the modifiers. Example: Trained up Alchemy, Enchant, & Conjuration (all Misc. skills) 4 points each, yet no Intelligence modifier when I leveled up.

You don't have the latest patch installed then. In all but the newest version, training misc skills does not give you level up point modifiers.

Thanks. What is the best way to get / install the patch?

Get the appropriate patch from

Then once you've downloaded the file, all you have to do (IIRC) is double click the file to run it and it will install itself.

In addition to what cjdevito said, when you're installing the patch, don't think it's frozen when (not if
) it stops at 33% - the patch takes a LONG time to do its stuff, so go make a cup of tea or something
