how do you romance a character?
well first, males can romance arie, jaheira, or viconia... females can only romance anomen.
different races or alignment can prevent one from having a romance with these four.
as time goes by these character will pause the game and talk about themselves or ask you questions. depending on how you reply the romance can continue, stall, or end. also there can be different events that need to take place for a romance to continue.
how do you know if they resond?
they will usualy end the pause themselves by saying something. depending on your statements you will get an idea of how its going between you two. if you dont hear from your intended for sometime, you might be missing an event or have a bug.
its good advice to save in different slots from time to time. if something doesn't go right between you two, you can always reload and try another option.
what's the point?
to have fun, and add a little flavor to the game.
cheers

There is almost everything about that.

I am in desperate need of a romance. I don't want to spoiled with all the details, but a hint on how to iniate a romance would be welcome. I'm currently in chapter four en me and the girls (jaheira, aerie and nalia) in the party have gone through a lot together already. But I haven't had any romantic hints from them yet.
I particularly wouldnn't mind a nice little romance with Nalia, but people on antoher board already told me she "doesn't have a romance script". Awww! How sadistic can game developers be?
Anyway, does romancing start in a particular chapter or after a set number of days? Or do (half) elves don't like neutral good barbarian half orcs like me?

Mordorman: sounds like you're SOL. The romance scripts should've started right away (you can tell when the romantic music comes up during a conversation). You must've answered rudely, or otherwise pissed them off.
Either that, or you're playing a dwarf.

If you are a half-orc you cannot romance Jaheira and/or Aerie. You have only one choice - Viconia, but without Kevin Dorner's patch it is impossible. (or cheating in CLUAConsole or ShadowKeeper)
You could find Viconia in Goverment District in some "inconvenient" situation.
If you want to romance Jaheira or/and Aerie I suggest to start new game with elf/ half-elf/ human (I heard also that in case of Aerie gnomes are allowed too) character.

Sorry MordorMan, sounds like you're too late. The romance scripts usually kick inabout midway through chapter two. You'll know which conversations are romance-specific by the "romantic" music that comes up. A few things that may have gone wrong:
--If you have both Aerie and Jahiera along, they get in catfights over you. You eventually have to choose. You may have given unseemly answers to both of them, thereby ending both romances. But if this happened, I think you'd recognize it. You get several romance scripts for both of them before the big choice comes down.
--This may be yet another manifestation of the famously buggered Jaheira romance script. But I doubt it.
--My best guess is racism. Yep, you read me right. None of the romances kick in for folks of smaller stature. That is to say, no romances for dwarves, gnomes, and halflings. (Incidentally, Viconia won't initiate a romance with elves either.) I could be wrong, but I'm guessing this is your problem. If not,

No need to say sorry Hazim, you all had something unique to report. And all the better a picture is drawn of my sorry situation. Judging from your comments, I think it must be a racism thing because I play a 1/2 orc and I never heard the slightest hint of romantic music coming up.
People people people what is Faerun coming to? Why can't they look through a slightly greenish skin, some protruding teeth and a not too delicate nose to the heart of gold that beats beneath? Or are elves just picky? I don't understand, because Viconia is also an elf. I did meet her but I decided not to include her in my paty because she was evil and might split if we got a bit too heroic for her taste.
But now I know she's my only chance of romance, I think I might go back for her if it's not too late. After Nalia, I think she is the cutest NPC in the game.
Or maybe better still, I'll finish this game as lonely half orc barbarian and come back later as an evil elven archer to break every heart I can find. That'll teach 'm!
Allright, I may be acting brave now but let it be known that deep down my soul is weeping. Half orcs are people too you know! Well.. at least half of them.

About romance with Viconia: If you kicked her from your party then I could assume the worst - you cannot romance her any more.
If you kick Aerie/Jaheira/Viconia from party it always kills the romance.
However, It could be changed by using cluaconsole, shadowkeeper......
