IMHO: The best overall solo artist is ..........................................

...Well with the XP cap removed anyways. And it is only better than Monk or K/M with the cap off.

I've soloed Monk and K/M Dualled, and have had to use certain "cheese" tactics in certain situations. And there were certain times(Monk early on, and K/M right after dualing) that were painfully slow.

I am now soloing Ranger/Cleric(Multi not Dual), and it is by far the most well rounded butt-kicking machine out of the 3.

I am also having the most fun, because as it has been pointed out here sooooooo many times, he also gets to cast Druid spells. Imagine my char: A dual wielding tank, with ironskin(more casts than K/M per rest at higher level), Draw upon holy might, and Archon Shield. This guy is totally unstoppable against multiple tanks. Add to that insect plague, 5+ Animate Dead, Summon Animals, Earth and fire elementals, and Dragons/Liches/Mages fall too easily without employing any cheese tactics.
Since i chose Mindflayer as racial enemy, they were not a problem(+chaotic command). And the 'turn undead' just makes most vampires/wraiths explode before they get close enough to hit you. Since getting the Shadow scale armor, I can pretty much hide in shadows while turning undead, wait for everything to explode, then mop up 1 or 2 remaining. Can you believe Lavok(?) exploded while I was hiding in shadows while turn undead was on...

Anyways I'm currently in Underdark at C(22)/R(18) level. I' dual wielding Hammer+2/Flail of Esthaven and using Shadow Dragon armor. Wow can't wait to get Hammer of thunderbolt and eventually CF.

Okay, enough of my babbling............

This all sounds very exciting but I personally don't like the whole removing the exp cap thing especially when soloing. When you get around to being able to be as tough with the cap...you can hang out with my solo monk who's at level 21 with cap..We can have some fun.

Genesis: That's why I said "overall". My monk got to 21 and I got bored with it. R/C can tank and is also a good summoner to add more variety than just hide then stunning blow/quivering palm....My 2 cents.

try ranger/cleric dual classed with the cap intact...still lots of fun, and access to 7th level druid spells all the same. You're right, these guys are monsters because of the equipment they can wear...

Shield of Harmony
Ring of Free Action
Cloak of Mirroring
Amulet of Power

These four alone will leave you immune to level drain and ALL spells, even power word stun, but three that I know of--Maze, imprisonment, and Fear. Pretty nasty immunities.

tiger one: I did dual on my second time through with just me and Jaheira. Even though I messed up on level I dualled at, I think 8, with the cap it was still pretty easy. Damn those Druid spells do kick@55. The beauty of it is that you can summon so many minions whenever there are high level casters that the caster imprison/maze them. Then you go in for clean up, if they survive. Got to love those skel warriors.

BTW. I never got Shield of Harmony. I toggled between Amulet of Power and Greenstone Amulet(for Dom,charm,etc..)

My favourite solo classes (with keeping the xp cap):
lonely hero style: dual Berserker/Mage
area attack style: Sorcerer
summon style: dual Mage/Cleric
