Bug? The Guild Guide charge me double!

I've been paying about 6-8 golds par travel (depends on which guild guide I use), and suddenly, Balmora guide charge me 14!

I have checked all the possible reason and found:

-I have no disease of any kind
-I have no bounty on my head, nor have ever been caught murdering/stealing
-My reputation is 23
-I am currently Warlock of Mages Guild, and have never been expelled
-I have just became Master Thief
-I am Spellwright of House Telvanni, and the first stage of my stronghold has completed

Strange thing is, I can still buy spells from her at discount price, and the disposition is still 98. I don't know why suddenly she decide to charge me double for travelling really...

Any help? Thanks.

Have you altered the difficulty setting?
Have you installed a patch?

I had also discovered the fares getting higher while my personality, speechcraft and mercantile skill went up. I thought it was because I increased the difficulty setting, but I did not investigate the matter because I am incredibly wealthy and I couldn't care less about the guild guide or stilt rider fares.

I have not changed the difficulty setting since the last time I travelled, and have patch installed.

I have enough money as well, but it's annoying to be charged twice the fare without any notice!

Oh, I just remember:

I was doing a quest for Imperial Legion and took a man to a certain point. For some reason, he keeps following me after we reached the destination. In the end, I had to drop him at bottom of a hill, by flying away myself. That could be the cause. The game thinks I have a travelling companion.

That could very well be it. Do the stilt rider drivers and the ship captains also charge you double? They should if they think you bring a companion.

Do you know if you travelling companion is still alive? Maybe you should kill him or deliver him to his destination. Just getting him there is not enough, a confirmation has to be written to your journal for an escort to have succeeded. Sometimes, triggering this requires you to walk around a bit at the site of the destination.

Yup, that was the problem. I checked with my saved game just before coming back to civilization (by Intervention spell), which was near where I left the man. I reloaded it and tried to kill him by taunting without success (well, I successfully taunted 4-5 times, but he never attacked me  ), so I wandered around with him a bit. Fortunately, I found a frost atronach soon enough. :D Thanks for the advice, MordorMan. :)

The new question is, why did he follow me around even though he kept telling me "Yes, I am staying here" as such, and my journal confirmed the quest ended...

Nope. I'm attractive enough without Talvanni Bug Musk. :D

Well, now I found "I have killed peaceful Ashlander" and every ashlanders hates me. :( I'm in the middle of the game, but I might need to restart all over again... *sigh* :(

I feel sorry for you. In my opinion, the worst thing about Morrowind is that it is far too easy to unintentionally mess up the plot.

Can't you restart from a point in the game before you agreed to do the escort duty?

Was the escort to the Koal Cave? I had some problems with the drop-off there myself.

No, the quest is for Imperial Legion to rescue a kidnapped missionary from Erabenismun (sp?) Camp. I had to *SPOILER* (highlight to read) take an ashlander man to the ex-wise woman who needed a man and held the missionary hostage to swap them (um, in a way, that sounds kinda kinky... :o ). The quest was completed, as I mentioned before, and I didn't kill him myself. He was killed after the quest, and I haven't got bounty on my head.

I don't have saved game before that any more, and I have finished a couple of Blade quest and became the blade operative, so I don't really want to do that again at the moment. :(

Yes, I have seen many bugs in this game....
