Warders' quests

I'm also having problems with this level. I've applied the latest patch, which leads me to believe that I'm not performing the quest properly. I have the mallet, the grapes, and the switch. I've had the Warders repeat their riddles. And I've read the books in the library.
But, the switch location in the machine room wall still won't prompt me to use the switch, and I still can't remove the sword from it's pedestal.
Strangely enough, as I had the Warders repeat their riddles one of them actually responded that I had solved his (Avarice). He disappeared and I got the 2000 exps. This got me all excited, so I ran to the gong, then to the machine. I was disappointed both times. The gong vibrated, but made no sound, and the switch still won't work.
Any insights?

Highlight for major spoiler..... I can't recall exactly what you have to do, but as for the mallet you need two pieces which have to be forged using the forge, and then you can sound the gong. The sword only has to glow inorder to finish the quest, to achive this u have to read each of the books from the upper right one to the lower right one all around the circle..... then the sword should start to glow as if someone cast sanctuary on it. The machine I cannot recall how to work, but I think you have to get a power source.... not sure here at all.....

Possible spoiler:
Isn't there a crank somewhere for a machine, which activates the grape crushing?

After numerous unsuccessful attempts to complete the Warders' tasks in proper order I went back to an earlier save and re-played the quest. The first time I played it very loosely, asking the Warders fir the riddles in no particular order and solving them whenever I had the pieces in hand. ?This time I took a more conservative approach. I asked the riddles of each Warder in turn, and solved only that riddle before proceeding to the next.
This seems to work. So far I've been able to solve three of them, and I'm getting my group prepared for what happens after I solve the last one.
It's evident that the order in which the riddles are solved is important in doing this quest.

Don't the warders tell you who to speak to in a particular order?

You know, I haven't run across that. As far as I know they don't provide such a clue. You may very wwll be right and I just overlooked it, but at what point does this happen?

I don't think there is an order. the last one to talk to is the lowest corner of the thingy in the middle of the room. you can only give the answer to his riddle after all the others are done. otherwise, I did them in whatever order I saw fit
